Yep I've gone from a 315bhp Pulsar too...

I promised myself that was it for modified cars... but I can already see some engine mods on the way for this car.

It's a year 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero estate (230bhp) 2.3 turbocharged engine.
Stage 1 remap brings them to 265bhp which is tempting :)

So quiet, and fast too in a lazy kinda way. It doesnt FEEL fast but you look at the speedo and it's really moving. I love it and it's great being able to drive by a police car without changing into 5th to avoid attention, even better it runs on normal unleaded and halved my insurance :D

And in case anyone was wondering why I got an estate it's because I shortly plan on getting two large dogs

Couldnt have made a bigger change, but it sounds as if you are pleased with it :)

Least it still has a lot of go for when you need it too

Mate I love it lol, I'm not missing my Pulsar at all :)

Having had first hand on what a pulsar is like to ride in i am not suprised to be honest! :) Not exactly the most civilised things in the world. Obviously i admire the pulsar's fantastic ability to rip your face off, but day to day the saab has to be by far the better car.

Cool car dude.

I resized your pics though :o They're a little large really (and I'm on GPRS :p) but 800x600 is really max for a post :)

Really understated cars, I've always liked Saabs. Especially if you do the remap!! They used to suffer horribly with lag, but I believe that's not an issue at all anymore is it? What's the power delivery like?

Looks really comfy too. Do they do AWD or RWD versions?

Personally I think that's a nice choice and a great car.

That looks very nice, it must be a bit of a change to have something a bit more refined. I kinda guessed that you wouldn't get anything that was too much of a slouch though ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a car with the ignition near the handbrake..push button etc but not that.

Actually all Saab's are FWD only. There is no noticable lag at all. It goes from 1-2k like any other car then the turbo kicks in and pulls nicely until 4, and then just as it feels like it's starting to slow the second cam or something kicks in and off it goes again. however it's hardly a screamer - it redlines at 6k!!

Yet despite all this slow reving it somehow manages to go fast because you can stay in one gear for ages and just go faster and faster and faster without changing, it's really quite fantastic.

The official 0-60 is 6.9 according to Parkers so it's no slouch, but I feel the stage one remap could be of benefit

I'll keep you updated on how I get on with it.

Oh and the ignition is there because to remove the key you have to switch off the engine and put the car in reverse. Until you do you cannot remove the key, they do this so even if theives break in and hot wire the car they arent going anywhere unless in reverse!

The dash would look a lot better if you could see all of it, considering most of it's obscured in the photo you dont get a good idea. It looks good when you can see the left panel and it's all lit up, plus it's the only car i've ever been in that has a night mode button where everything but the speedo dims away

And even better below 80mph or so only 0-85 is visable, but go over this and the whole speedo appears. How cool is that!! :)

lol, ditto to the above quote, I'm totally with you on that mate - I've just sold my Impreza WRX and replaced it with 9-3 (lpt) turbo coupe, MY2000, and with a remap to HOT spec @ 220bhp. I'm so liking it, it's the small touches that make a car and the SAAB is so full of intelligent little design touches, I'm very impressed. The engine surges that you're up to speed without knowing it, solid, fast, quiet, refined, comfortable. I can honestly say for the first time that the next car I'll be wanting is... another SAAB. But shhh don't tell the rest of the motoring public, they all think it's a just another Vauxhall :p
Any car maker whose sister company makes fighter jets is cool in my book
Nice ad

It's a petty, as i loved your pulsar. Great example of a classic baking-hot-hatch.

But im still young enough to crave a pulsar, and not give two hoots about ride :D

But that saab aint too bad either.

Should be changeable tbh, mine lights till 90mph sure the manual mentions it, i love the dash, glad your enjoying it. How are you finding the seats? I have the 250bhp version (2.3 litre HOT turbo: 250bhp at 5,500rpm/258lb ft (350Nm) torque at 1,900-4,000 rpm.)but in auto sadly.

They pull well from low revs from a variable boost iirc.

Up until recent models you can't take the key out of the ignition without locking it in reverse - kinda like a free multi-lock.

AFAIK the main reason why they do that is for the being key in situ in the steering column in the event of a big crash could cause you a lot of lower body grief.
