can i get a capture device for my pc so that i can put my dads video stuff on to dvd for him.

rather than paying one of these firms to keep doing it.

You can get them, yes (assuming ou have standard connections on your camcorder).

I'v had a look and cant see any on the OcUK site. The thing you want is called "dazzle" and its made by "pinnacle". I cant link on here, but google will help you.
 
perhaps i wasnt as clear as i should have been.

can you only do it from the camcorder or can you actually do it from a video recorder itself, his pretty old buy todays standards and only have the av type leads.

Just connect the Dazzle up to the video player.
 
Assuming your VCR has a scart connection (I can't see it not) then you need a video card with a composit or SVideo input, I can't see any on OCUK but they are easy enough to find on a well known auction site and pretty cheep.

Get an adaptor that you plug into the scart socket of your VCR, connect it up to the video card and record away with the video editing software of your choice. You'll probably need to record in real time though...
