I hope you are going to overclock that puppy!

So not that much of an increase in the graphics tests in 3dmark11 then with a 6870.

With my i3 540 at 3.8Ghz and 6870 I get:-

GraphicsTest1 - 20.41 FPS - i3 540 3.8Ghz
GraphicsTest1 - 21.58 FPS - i5 2600K

GraphicsTest2 - 20.67 FPS - i3 540 3.8Ghz
GraphicsTest2 - 22.23 FPS - i5 2600K

GraphicsTest3 - 25.96 FPS - i3 540 3.8Ghz
GraphicsTest3 - 27.32 FPS - i5 2600K

GraphicsTest4 - 11.84 FPS - i3 540 3.8Ghz
GraphicsTest4 - 13.00 FPS - i5 2600K

Small increases and they are probably down to your 6870 being overclocked.

Based on that I'm not going to waste my time upgrading to an i5 2600K for gaming if I am running a 6870.

Think something much more powerful is needed for that processor to show it's worth.

Ok, just stuck a 40 multiplier on it, upped the voltage a bit, running 4ghz. There were a few things turned off in the bios earlier so it meant that the cpu was maxxing out at 3.4ghz. Going to run 3DMark11 now.....
