I hate builders

I just feel so violated by tradesmen.

Called the insurance company need to get the Kitchen ceiling re-plastered/boarded etc. They want 2 quotes, fair enough.

Mate of my sister is a plaster, he quotes me 600 quid Not mates rates i tell him its an insurance claim so you charge what you need.

Second plasterer "Oh insurance job is it ? Right then well i need to do an asbestos pre-check (£250 quid rofl) You will need such and such, electrical checks blah blah. Total £1400 ...... Fiddling Lieing cheating scum bags..

I have no qualms getting the insurance to finally pay something back (and milk it) but this guys attitude was just typical i find.

Im a plasterer and thats complete lies from the second plasterer,i hope you told him where to go.

Not all Tradesman are like this, but unfortunately there are loads of people around that are as you say : Fiddling Lieing cheating scum bags, which is a shame as it ruins people like myself trying to earn a decent honest living when pricing jobs and the customers automatically thinks your trying to rip them off.

However last few jobs ive priced in the last 2 weeks, people are expecting you to do the job for bugger all, this makes me mad

yeah i know but he was there for only 15mins replaced the pipe with copper and looked like he done a good job?.

i dont get people who moan about plumbers ,builders , most people dont have a clue when it comes to this sort of thing , i understand that there are some that are complete useless though!

I can only base it on what I know, for instance, I paid £300 to have the clutch replaced on my car which I would deem to be a task that requires higher skills than replacing 2 pipes, it took them a damn sight longer than 15mins.

It just sounds very expensive.

kmufc77 yeah its a real shame maybe im unlucky but I always seem to be potentially ripped off or at least played.

A little tip for next time you use a Tradesman, ask for indentures or prove of an apprenticeship, this will limit the cowboys straight away as half of these so called tradesmen that rip off people will have no qualifications at all.

All the Plasterers on the the firm i work for have this, even the blokes that are in the early 60s

OK, so in addition to waking me up on my day off with their hammering and working class lingo, they have managed to smash my bedroom window, nick all the parking spaces with their vans, and they pushed my sky dish out of alignment and left a ladder there so I can't get any sky now because I can't realign the dish.

Is there some kind of pellets I can put down?

It's your fault for applying to go on 'Challenge Tommy Walsh'.

Haha, working class. This always amuses me when middle classes look down on them as they no doubt are working much harder and earning a substantial amount more than the OP and living a better lifestyle. The two builders I know certainly take home more than several bankers I know, but we don't mix with them because they're working class  :/

Lol @ the working class folk reacting to being called working class :p

A lot of builders do annoy me though. Inappropriately noisy, can't watch their language or behaviour and generally offend a lot of people. I did labouring for a while and we prided ourselves on being polite and well behaved. As a result we used to really nice jobs with really nice interesting people.

It was much the same at my school, sadly they were all new money and wife and daughters were peroxide blonde, orange and driving the likes of pink mercedes (well mothers anyway).
Hard to explain it anyway but knowing new money and families of old money two totally different breeds. Then there was people like me where parents sacrificed everything to send their kids to a private school.

pardon my working class ignorance, but if there is a ladder there, why can't you use it yourself to realign the dish?

I can't move the dish back because they pushed the dish out of alignment so they could get their ladder in there. The ladder is attached to the scaffolding.

Lmao, this reminds me of a job I was on when we accidentally moved the guys dish out of alignment and he almost started crying :D. He was going mad at us and saying he was going to call out sky and charge us hundreds of pounds to fix it .

Are they working on your house then? If not then that is out of order, especially as you're paying for sky. I'd have a word and ask them to move the ladder.

Can't you call the police for invasion and damage of property?

Pardon me if I'm being silly but in where I used to live you could shoot them with a shotgun let alone put up with that rubbish
