I hate insurance claims

Underwritten by Aviva? heh..

Keep an eye on your premium when it comes to renewal. I unfortunately had an accident in the home a couple of years ago and made a claim on my insurance, I think the total payout was ~£750

A few months later when the renewal policy came through (remember you dont have to do anything to renew we will just keep taking the monthly premiums) it had gone up from ~£200ish to guess what.....yep.... £760!

To which I felt I was being punished for making a claim for an accident, something I was paying the insurance for!

This was my first and only claim I had ever made and I immediately changed and am now paying a good priced policy with Swinton.

A lot (read most) house insurance policies now have discount for non claimers.
Same as motor insurance basically.

So if you have had a very good record and they can trace it your probably getting a very strong discount on your premiums. Suddenly after a claim your not so good, you will possibly/probably lose this no claims and they will be taking a claim into account on your premiums.

Motor insurance is the same, some people think that protecting their no claims means they can prang their car and pay the same premium the next year. No.

Lets say year 1 your premium is £2,000 before no claims discount. That you have 60% no claims, so you pay £800.
During year 1 you have a fault claim, but luckily you protected your no claims, phew!
Year 2 rolls along and you expect a similar premium... Well your base premium is now £3,000 due to a fault claim meaning your risk has gone up. You still get 60% discount due to your protected no claims discount = premium of £1,200 to actually pay. WTF OMG111!!1 I was protected and they want an extra 50%!

Worst case, you didn't protect. You lose 2 years discount so go to 40%, your new premium is £3000-40% = £1,800

Thats how no claims discounts, protected discounts etc work. The premium before discount will reflect your circumstances, so if you start making claims expect your premiums to rise, if at the same time you lose no claims discounts expect the net premium you actually pay to go up significantly.

Well latest update and an end to it all.

They must have listened to the recordings because i got a phone call saying they were sending out everything i need to build a new pc.

So im happy their happy .. job done

Thanks all for your ears

I've recently been burgled and the insurance claims were absolutely spot on and painless. Shame the burglary was very much the opposite. It's awful when it happens. Safe to say my place is like Fort Knox now. Harsh lessons learnt.

Might not be over yet, google Ival and even people who were supposed to be sorted had problems.

Apparently Ival are owned by Powerplay and are reasonably notorious for being naff.

Snap! Just a couple of weeks ago I returned from a business trip to discover I'd been done over, got new window locks and an alarm fitted but still feel a bit like I've locked the door after the dog got out :(

Insurance stuff's just gone in, hoping it'll be painfree. My last claim with RBS was for flooding and it was pretty swiftly sorted so I'm hoping for the same this time.

Just an update to conclude things.

After asking to hear the recordings they have decided to send my all the parts needed to build a whole computer with the addition of a couple of extra free items.

so the trouble is over and fingers crossed i get the parts in the post and it can all be put behind me.

thank you for your support in my time of rant's

untill next time fairwell
Any update matey? did they actually deliver on their latest promise?

Years back, I was paying quite a lot for my home insurance because I'd been with the same insurer for years and they charged me whatever they thought my inertia would let them get away with. I'd been with them so long I couldn't even remember who I was insured with.

The I got burgled. The PC they nicked was of course one I built from components. Which I hadn't kept the receipts for.

So the insurance company laughed and sent me a 386-based machine they found in a skip, right?

No. They took my word for what components were in there, accepted that it was cheaper to replace them with better parts in some cases due to the ongoing improvements in hardware and told me to just get the new stuff and they'd sort out the payment with the company that had the cheaper of the two quotes I gave the insurance company. I never even saw a bill. Same for the replacement door and windows. Took about a week. The boarding up cost was even faster - a cheque for the £75 cost arrived two days after I phoned my insurance company.

They rather spoiled their record by forgetting about me one year. I've no idea what happened - I was assuming that the insurance payments were going out by direct debit as usual but it turns out that I was uninsured for several months.

And I still can't remember which company it was.

Where was I before I started waffling? Oh yeah...the OP.

It looks to me like your insurance company is using delaying tactics to try to wear you down until you give up and accept the cost of replacing the PC as well as the useless insurance premiums you're paying. It would probably be a good idea to dump them and use a different insurance company, one that actually insures you. What if you need to make a major claim, for something you can't afford to pay for yourself?

Ugh been going through a claim for over 7 months for an accident, or should I say, stupid **** who forgot to put her handbrake on/keep car in gear on a ferry crossing and damaged my rear bumper.

She went into the back of my car which I bought the day before, this was during the night on a very rough 16 hour crossing in the channel which I was very Ill, puking my guts up and all I never managed to see the other person, however she signed a admittance of liability form with the officer on board.

I've had to retell this story in great detail at least twenty times, she would never answer at multiple attempts to contact her and left it with my insurance company to chase her up. She's now saying she didn't do it and have been waiting for a long time for the ferry company to get back to me to back up my claims with written and verbal evidence.

But my insurance is so bad, they will never let you know what's going on or when they've taken the next step in the claim, so you're left to phone call at random times to see if there's any news and there's hardly any progress made.

I'm at the point that I feel I've been had and the service is a complete joke, if I ever get this written confirmation of the third party sent to me I'll want to take it further than her insurance paying for my repairs, she's clearly witheld information and should be punished for lying about an accident she said didn't happen.

Not only that, my insurance has gone from £900 to £1200, won't be going with them that's for sure!
First time I've ever had to make a claim on insurance in my life, this is a horrible experience.
