Which would be a pretty bad idea, some topics are interesting/useful despite being unpopular.

A moderator may of course choose not to close a thread despite disapproval or vice versa but it's not purely down to whether people like a thread, there's legalities etc to consider.

But then you'd have a sensitive OP locking their threads at the slightest hint of criticism/opposing view.

I've seen various complaints about a specific mod on these forums that people keep having unpleasant run-ins with, and no one seems to care about it.
