Hi all,

I have recently purchased NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE and as my current spec is very weak for such a good graphics card I want to get a new Intel 11th gen processor for which I need a new Motherboard and maybe RAM as well?

My Current spec is
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3 Intel Skylake ATX
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
PSU: RMi Series RM1000i 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular

PC is being used for gaming, Internet browsing, watching movies.

Questions:
1. Which Intel 11th gen processor should I get?
2. Which gaming motherboard should I get?
3. Should I get new RAM as well? I want 16GB, any advise?

I have already spent a lot on new graphics card and PS5 as well so do not want to spent a lot on those if possible.

Thanks in advance

4k gaming is mainly gpu bound but if your muti tasking then more cores will help. Ypu could reuse your memory and go for a cpu and motherboard upgrade

Questions:
1. Which Intel 11th gen processor should I get?

Answer: None of them.

2. Which gaming motherboard should I get?

Answer: Motherboards aren't 'gaming' that is marketing tosh.

3. Should I get new RAM as well? I want 16GB, any advise?

Answer: Yes you should aim for 3200-3600MHz C14-C16.

I have already spent a lot on new graphics card and PS5 as well so do not want to spent a lot on those if possible.

You spend £1400+ on a GPU, but want to cheap out on a decent system to put it in?

What processor should I get? Always had Intel so do not not anything about the others, wouldn't know which one to choose, any suggestions?

Then just a new motherboard( just wanted to mention I play games and that is what it is for) but that will depend with processor I get I guess?

Thanks for the RAM advise.

Yes, I have spent £1399 already! No I do not want anything cheap, I know it won't be but do not want to spend thousands again if possible.

Although the arricle was with a 3080 it shows you just how much impact the cpu has at 4k.

Did you look at the 4k benchmarks ?

You don't need to spend crazy money on a high end cpu which was part of your originsl post.

The 5800x would be a goid choice and a x570 or b550 motherboard.

@Journey gives good advice but click 14 or 16 comes at extra cost which may only net you a few fps.

Just a quick note, and I didn't read the other posts, but I wonder why you would go for 11th gen. It's early, expensive, and the current indications are that it's no better than the 10th gen.

I have managed to grab AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Processor for only £445 so now need to decide on a motherboard and some RAM.

Do I understand this correctly, if the board is AMD then it will support Ryzen 9 5900x ?

Hi all,

I am a bit too tired deciding on which processor to get, different people advise different stuff.

I have been looking at these:
Ryzen 5 5600X 6 core, 12 threads
Ryzen 7 5800X 8 core, 16 Threads
Intel i7 10700K 8 core, 16 threads
Intel i9 10900k 10 core, 20 threads

Are they any good? Is i9 10900K the best out of those as it's got 10 core and 20 threads?
Will those match up my RTX 3090 performance?

Thanks

P.S. I have not managed to get that 5900, the seller cancelled the order saying no stock

there are a couple of bundles out there that offer the 5950x and a good mobo for msrp, tbh the 5950x is the only choice for such a card i should know as i run a 5950x and a 3090 fe all under custom cooling and my pc is brutally fast in every game i play

As you're at 4k the cpu probably won't actually make that much difference to framerate. However;

I think the Ryzen 5900X would be the top AMD offering (seems to do slightly better than the 5950X in gaming tests out of the box, and if over clocking you might be able to get higher frequencies, plus it's a fair bit cheaper). 5950X is better for workloads like video editing etc. However if you've not going to be doing lots of video editing etc then personally I'd go for the 5800X - will do a great job for a couple of hundred pounds less, and is actually available too!

On the Intel side although the 10900K is the top offering I'd think about grabbing an i9 10850K as they're on sale for prices comparable to the 5600X at the moment in some online shops... Only marginally behind the 10900K, and will do a great job of gaming.

I wonder when 5900x and 5950x will be available to buy for a regular price
