I had a voucher lying around so I ordered PC Gamer version of Far Cry which I believe comes with the latest patch?

Are there any things I should download/know before it arrives? :D

Dont think the pathes come with it unless you bought the pcgamer edition.

Thats the version I got an it had all the patches including the 64 bit upgrade :)
The patches you need are 1.3, 1.31,.1.33 an you can get em all from http://patches.ubi.com/far_cry/

edit:aint played it for a while so I think I might go an get it out the cupboard and re install it :)

If you have an X1800/X1900 series graphics card, you will want to check the Far Cry website and get the HDR+AA patch. ;)

You will also want to keep a few spare changes of pants near your PC, that game is amazing.

Yeah I just got it the other day, played the demo ages ago and wasn't very impressed.

FEAR runs a bit choppy on my PC and I didn't care for Quake 4 so I thought I would go back and give it a try.

Wow what a game!

by coincidence i actually started playing this game for the first time yesterday. so far i'm not that impressed, the story is a bit "wtf?" and i'm bored of crawling though bushes. :/
also the stealth aspects of the game seem to have a degree of luck to them, rather than skill.

Fair comment but the game does move away to different environments and has different styles of combat on different levels. Keep an eye on the meter that shows how visible you are and if you see it creeping up, back off. It's true that sometimes you get spotted even when being careful; that's when you need to rely on your combat skills and devastating headshots. Sometimes it also helps to kill off a few enemies from afar before approaching, rather than trying to sneak past, that way at least if you get spotted you haven't got a whole platoon to deal with.

Worth sticking with because IMO it's the best single player FPS ever made.

^ I agree 100%. It is a bit wierd for the first level or two as the levels are so large and open, you can approach them in different ways. But once I realised that I just had a ball. Playing it though a second time now about 18 months after I first played it, and I've still yet to play a better FPS single player game.

I started to play this once, cant remember why I stopped. must have been something small because I remember enjoying the demo . I think i'll save it for when I'm without the internet for a few weeks :).

It's not really the visuals that do it for me but the variety of the levels, the different ways to complete the levels and the AI. a hallmatk of a great game for me is to play it through to completetion more than once. Only ever done this with Painkiller and Half Life 2 before.

Just checked FarCry-thegame.com and couldn't see it in the downloads area. Got a link?

There's a level about halfway through, I think it's called Rebellion, and it's just awesome. So big, so open, so many routes... it's incredible.
