Does it NEED to fit through the letterbox.

Get something tiny and send it in the biggest box you could possibly find with other boxes inside other boxes all tapped up using as much tape as you can afford. Preffarbly with electric tape.

A box full of envelopes with his/her name and address already on them.

Begbie - done that box thing before, huge box, tiny box containing the present taped to the bottom and then fill the main box with shredded paper - makes a lot of mess.
