I don't get out much and don't have any proper friends. Going out for walks or jogs on my own would become boring and like a chore but I would like to get a little fitter as I don't eat right and never go out with not having any friends. I want to get fit and have fun at the same time so I'll actually want to keep at it. I'd be grateful of any advise.

Like Goatboy said, join a sports club..take up a sport that you like to keep you active. Perhaps join a gym, you might meet people there or at a sports club.

Get a dog and take him/her out for long walks perhaps? :p

It is very important to have some good friends in life!

How old are you? If you're an adult you really ought to act now! It's a well established phenomenon that people tend to make the best friends of their lives in their twenties, especially their early twenties.

Unless you're a behemoth and/or have a history of heart problems in your family, I think you should treat the lack of friends as the more serious problem...though obviously both problems can be challenged in certain ways, such as sports clubs.

The few of my friends which I count as very good friends, were individually gained thus:

  • Friend A was made when I was 17, as he was in the classes of three of my A-level subjects at school
  • Friend B is the younger brother of Friend A, and became my good friend when I was 21
  • Friend C was a regular in a pub I worked in when I was 21
  • Friend D was a housemate at university, when I was 22, and is now a lodger
  • Friend E was a housemate at university when I was 22
  • Friend F was a good friend of Friend B, and later became mine and Friend A's friend too, when I was 25
  • Friend G as above
  • Friend H was a colleague of Friend D, and became my good friend when I was 27
  • Friend I was an employee in a pub I managed when I was 27/28

I turned 29 about three months ago. I know that's an awfully complex way of putting it all, but I'm trying to give an example of how an average person (I think I'm average in this regard) builds good friendships over the years. As you may have noticed, although I have nine good friends, Friend I is the only good friend I have made, without there being any connection to any of the others, since I was 22!

Friends tend to stem from other friends, and presuming you're either in your late teens or early twenties, now is the time you should start the ball rolling. If you're older don't despair; there's no reason why it can't start whatever your age, but you may need to put in more effort/be more active in your search than I have had to be. Indeed for me, there wasn't really a search; it fortunately just clicked into place as my life unfolded. :)

I hate gyms, I really do. Get out for a jog - you don't know what your missing. Sure, it's a hard slog to begin with. But over time it becomes hugely fulfilling. The 45 minute jog I get most days are when I am at my trouble free happiest.

The hardest thing is starting, though it gets easier over time. But ultimately the decision is yours, and only you can motivate yourself to improve your lifestyle.

And like I always say in these threads... Good luck :)

Join some spinning/ circuit classes/ martial art classes?

Also for new friends why not try taking lessons in something or other at a local college?

Id start a class of some sort at a gym, then you can become friendly with regulars.

Maybe ask a couple of them to go to the pub after it or something along those lines, having no friends is a bigger problem than fitness man.

Maybe worry less about how many ghz your md64 3200 is running at and concentrate on meeting new people :).

Good luck.

Hehe I think typo or not that is a fantastic thread title :p

It's like saying "so far, my life has been kinda hum-drum..you know, I go out a fair bit, have a good time with my friends but never really push the boundaries. So I'm asking you guys, I need to be more excessive. I want advice on how to push the envelope, to test my body to the limit of destruction. I want to take on all-comers and stand triumphant, to be known forever as the guy that would always BE excessive"

Yeah, you should do that, it'd be awesome :p

Stalking.......great way to meet new people (and kill them!) after the usual six month surveillance stint......irregular feeding times and anxiety help to lose weight.

Running from the Law.......which you will need to do after the stalking....great for the cardiovascular and particularly exciting if they bring in the dogs.

Religion.......Great for finding Christians to stalk and even greater fun feeding them to Lions in the local Zoo......Muslims are more fun if you like to draw cartoons!!

Religion (part deux).......become a Muslim and take to wearing large vests....great for cardiovascular and limited food intake....particularly at EID!!

Call Me......and arrange Mutual killing sessions.....can accommodate any perversion......so long as it involves dogs, running from the Law and Stalking!! :D

Do you offer evening classes? My shift at McMeatons meat carcass factory runs till six at night. How many calories does a finger have?

Evening classes are always catered for....subject to my ASBO's and relevant checks on your background to ensure you are not a "mole".....would hate to think we were being infiltrated by Rozzers eh!!.

As to your question of Calorific values of Fingers........you should be advised that Chocolate fingers will always have a higher calorific value than a Human finger, although this can be offset by eating them with a salad, containing lemon juice and Balsamic Vinegar. or using the Human fingers as part of the Atkins Diet where appropriate (live people tell tales!!) to your circumstances.

As a side note do McMeatons accept one-off requests for meat disposal??
