I recieved a fixed penalty notice (parking ticket)

If you dispute within 14 days they will usually honour the 14 day reduced rate after hearing your arguement. They almost always say you have no case though in hope you'll back down. If you're certain you are in the right you can take it to the independent adjudicator.

I had a PCN in Bristol which I was 100% certain I would "win" but it was too much hassle for £30 so I coughed up.

You need to find out what that single yellow line restricts, that line is not part of the school zig-zag marking.

It says no stopping, not no parking - no?

Yellow lines of any type are usually huge NO when it comes to parking so I assume the sign is only there to stop people stopping when dropping the kids off.

I would dispute it, but I would not of parked there.

That would be my reading. My (limited) understanding is that they are no parking at any time, no stopping at the times shown. If the time restrictions applied to both parking and stopping I would expect the sign to say so.

You don't need a sign for yellow lines when the are in a zone.

Only need signage at zone start.

So he was fine on the clearly sign but braking the residents yellow line.

Bit like when I was done for parking in a bay but didnt notice yellow line in bay, as bays only worked during certain times of the day.

Contest but I don't think you will get off. Unless technical issues can be proven all fault with ticket.
