Hello all,

this'll probably be considered a stupid thread but I'm wondering, is there a time limit as to how long after an accident you have to report it to your insurance before it's no longer "valid" ?

The reason I ask is because as you know I had my accident a few weeks back yet and I haven't heard anything.

I'm just wondering if say in 6 months time would it be possible to get a letter through about a claim Mr Muppet which happened at the beginning of January?

Thanks all :)

I don't know if there is a time limit, but I'd imagine they can take as long as they want? He may have told the insurance, but they're sorting a case for him??

Normally when telling an insurance company they make contact and send a letter to inform you they have been told of the accident don't they? This certainly was the case with my sisters accident.

I don't know if it's any different because it was a company car I hit...

I would expect it to be within 'a reasonable time'. At the weekend I guess would give you 48 hours, during the week would be 24 hours. Maybe.

I can remember years ago. I think back in 1998. Someone T boned my dads Ford Orion. About a year later my dad got mail through the post that the person was going to try and claim off my dads insurance. Was a big suprise to my dad at the time. I think the person was watching too many no win, no fee adverts at the time. He didn't get very far though :o.

Someone once falsely claimed I had been in a accident with their car. I recieved the letter in March and the 'accident' was meant to have happened in November the year before.

So from that you can see they basically have as much time as they like. What ****** me off was with insurance claims they treat you as GUILTY until you prove otherwise.
