The real genius behind Apple marketing was that they appealed to media types. The people that make TV, News and movies as well as write reviews and blogs... it forced mass market appeal upon people who are less discerning about their technology purchases and more just about a trendy brand.
Hence Apple being able to get away with "inventing" facetime, not having MMS on the original iPhone etc...
Not to forget bragging about being able to copy and paste.
