I think my iPhone might need to go back...

... unless I have a better experience with the battery life.

I love the phone, for all the reasons you're all probably familiar with, but the damn thing was on 20% battery by 2000 last night after a full charge at the wall (I unplugged it at 0730).

That was after a day of limited (20 mins or so) surfing, 90 mins iPod audio and 20 mins of calls. Not good at all.

What a shame. My old network has offered me a massive discount to stay with them and I'd rather have the iPhone, but what's the point in having such a lovely phone if it runs out of juice?

Anyone else having battery problems? Have I got a lemon?

So it seems the best way to save batteries on the iPhone is to not use it at all:

I'm in a pretty bad reception area so today, I'm experimenting by turning off 3G.

Does anyone know if an update to 2.0 will come out soon and what difference this will make?

Also - if I return the iPhone and get an iPod Touch, will I be similarly frustrated by the battery life?

I think it's the 3G.

I've had 3G switched off all day and listened to the iPod for 60 mins and I'm at about 80%:

So the iPhone 3G lasts well as a 2G phone.

Admittedly, 3G reception is poor where I live, so that's kinda fair enough. I know that the battery drains quickly when I'm working in London with 3G on though. I think going on the tube with the phone on doesn't help either.

It would be good to have an app that allows you to quickly manage your connections.

Good point Kainz.

The other thing I did differently today was only use the Facebook app and I did a power off -then-on first thing in the morning.

Perhaps the OS isn't properly managing app closedown?

i really can't complain about the battery life on my iphone 3g. i use it quite a lot for texting, checking e-mails and web browsing mainly through wi fi but sometimes on 3g if i'm out of work/home and it lasts 3 or 4 days before it needs re-charging. :)

What are your settings?

My iPhone hit 20% at 2130 today - after being fully charged at 0730.

It's gone back. I just need to be able to make and receive calls as a priority.

I'll see if there are promising updates over the next few months. Most impressed in all other ways by the phone and very impressed by the staff at the Apple store.
