I think usb 2 isn't working properly on my machine..

I have a new external usb 2 hard disk , and i was copying some music onto it yesterday but it seemed pretty slow. 30gigs took about 45mins - is that normal for usb 2? I have sp2 with all the updates etc so it should be fine.... nf4 dfi mobo with latest chipset drivers as well.

Maybe i'm worrying about nothing??

That is a lot of music, just check that usb2 is enabled in the mobo bios. But to be honest that much music would take a while.

well seeing as 1 Gb transfer using USB2 takes about 90 seconds (google), your time seems spot on

It is, its still limited by the drive though.

Same deal with sata, the bandwidth is there, its just NOT being fully utilized.

At least thats how i understand it.

if the drive is old yes that transfer rate is OK (~11mb/s)
normally I get 18-20mb/s from my seagate 400gb usb2.0
