What resolution is the monitor? And what games specifically?
If it's 2560x1080 you might get away with it in some games (CS:GO, fortnite possibly), if it's 3440x1440 I'd think it might not be enough.
I'm guessing you'll be aiming to get a pretty solid 100+ fps....for reference I game at 2560x1440 using a GTX 1070 currently and usually only see an average of around 70-85 fps in Battlefield 5 on mostly low settings, I'm expecting less on the upcoming BF2042. I also have a much more capable CPU!
If buying new in the current market I'd estimate that you'd want a minimum of an AMD R5 3600 with 3200MHz+ RAM, for graphics I'd aim for a minimum of an RTX 2060, but ideally a 3060 or better in order to maintain competitive frame rates for the next few years.
4c8t CPUs are already starting to show their age and it's only going to get worse going forward, especially as the current consoles are both 8c16t
With regards to value for money on the GPU front, unless you can get a Founders Edition nVidia card at MSRP, the 6600xt at £400-£450 is probably the best value.
I'm happy to be told I'm wrong on the above but that's where I see the best value being in the current market...and it doesn't look like it will get better soon I'm afraid
