Hey guys, im after some advice, im starting to come to the end of my current supplies of autoglym and megs stuff, now im thinking whether its worth looking at the flashier (ie dearer) stuff about now, seems to be a lot of choice now, poorboys, sonus, megs etc dont really know what I should be looking at next.

I currently use either Autoglym super resin polish or the megs stage 2 polish, and then Autoglym extra gloss protection, which im happy with tbh, i also tend to clay the car every 4-5 months too.Im wondering what the flashier stuff will do for me, longer lasting, better shine?

Im doing mega miles at the mo, and it really annoys me how quickly the car gets dirty :(

So what do you guys reckon?

i find autoglym stuff to be really easy to put on and take off, so its quick, but megs for me takes a little more effort buffing off. I would however say that with the NXT wax, it seems to hold off the dirt a bit better and keep the shine better than autoglym.

I tried NXT and i wasnt too impressed with the results tbh, there seemed to be a greasy finish on the car.

I have found this with the megs 3 stage system, and have gone back to using autoglym.

For a real quick nasty appraoch i have use 'mer' or whatever its called, funny stuff in a blue bottle but for the ease of application and removal the results are asstounding. I tend to use it on the landy as its constantly filthy but i like her to look nice still :)

slightly ot but whatys a claybar and what do you do with it?

Pretty much a lump of clay which you use on the painwork to remove bonded in contaminants, next time you clean your car, after washing, run your finger across the paint, if it feels rough or you feel bumps, then you need to clay your car, after you have done it, the paintwork will feel smooth like glass, it brightens up the paint no end tbh.

hi there NTX is more of a sealent then a true wax how badley is your cars paint work many marks cobwebs fine scratches in paintwork ?

if you lived near shropshire i would help you with pcing your car

if you could get some one to pc the paintwork then clay it be ideal if not then carry on with the routine your useing but just use the autoglym super resin polish as this helps fill the marks in your car then depends what your after in a wax if your after durablity so you dont have to wax to offten but also a good shine then go for collinite 476s

if you dont mind waxing once a month and want a nice deep wet look to your car then would go along the lines of Victoria Wax Concours or chemical guys 50/50

clay bars are great if you do intend to use one make sure you use a fine clay bar along the lines of sonus green and keep body work well lubricated if its your first time with one

sorry was rushing to be fair make more effort next time at least im trying to offer advice

or i could just be honest and admit in not great at writing

The NXT does give a better shine than the Autoglym SRP, but the do have out Ultra Deep Shine which is as good as NXT.
If you get geasyness after polishing finish off with a microfibre cloth, you'd be amazed at the difference it makes.

quick detailer spray along with microfiber cloth would be best way i always spritz a little on the cloth as im wipeing of the wax.

The car is a 6 month old Focus ST in perfomance blue, a nice deep colour, where in Shrops are you Tolearn, im normally in telford a lot at the mo ;) :p

Theres no real swirl marks are cobwebs yet, touch wood!

Collinite #915 is a good choice to im in shrewsbury bud if u need me to take a look or try some products out some time let me know.

nice car by the way with it being blue Swissvax Best of Show would make it really stand out theres loads of options just depends how much you want to spend ive got a few different waxes here and some other nice stuff you can have a try of.

i use wax and shampoo from poundland :D well its only a mondeo and the finnsih is pretty good. Wax is as good as turtlewax and the shampoo works.

Then i use Carplan dash cleaner, for dash and blackbits of trim (best thing i have found for hiding the white waxy bits)

Carplan alloy wheel cleaner, seems good for an every week clean but can struggle with really bad stuff

Then some 99p tyre blackner from the 99p shop in birminghma pallasades, does what it says on the tin.

For regular cleaning I'm using autoglym shampoo, luminous green stuff can't remember the name and zymol, with autoglym extra gloss protection on top.

Seems to last quite well in that a few weeks later just a bucket and sponge brings the car up really well.

Last month I spent a good 4 hours on the paint, sonus SFX-1 by hand with a foam applicator - whole car, two passes, then SFX-3 two passes, then Zymol then EGP on top. I remove approximately 35 kilos of road tar & with the car being black it looked like a mirror. Arms nearly fell off but was worth it, BMW paint = rock hard.

Swirl marks are now down to a minimum but I don't think I can totally eliminate them without a PC. eidolon has kindly offered to lend me his but work lately has meant no time to collect. :/

What do you mean by 2 passes, slap it on clean off and slap it on again?

Mines started to pick up bits of tar at the bottom of the sills etc, might have to give it a good claying again.

Yep, on, then off, inspect & go again (if required).

Tar spots on mine had probably been there for years, they'd baked on so it took two goes to shift them. They laughed at tar spot remover so it was time to get physical.
