I have a craving to make some music... apart from "eJay" (unless it's gotten a lot better) what can I use to make some? Maybe a program that you can use to make decent sounding drum beats and import .wav and .mp3 files..? And with some nice synth sounds? Anyone know of a good one that you don't need to spend days figuring out?

I played guitar for a couple years and piano for a few years so I'm capable, it's just knowing what to use :p

EDIT: Sorry I didn't notice the music forum :o

I was wondering about something similar myself. I read in a review that Tracktion is meant to be good, no idea if it is or not yet though.

Ableton Live 6.0 for the win

quoted for the truth

wish i could afford to buy the full version !

on the demo i used to open it get confused and close it again, then i realised how to use those built in tutorials making stuff became simple

after i seen someone here the other day recommend it i bought a computer music mag that came with a few full programs but been used to ableton i didnt find it to great :(

i love ableton because you can pretty much use it for anything , the new one even supports videos and stuff

To be honest there is a lot of choice. FL Studio, Reason, Cubase, Logic (mac only now tho) and more that i can't think of offhand.

All of them do pretty much the same thing, ie everything (nearly) and many people do try and say one is better than the others but really, you get out what you put in.

I myself use FL Studio 6, and link to my tunes in my sig. ;) (oh shameless plug i have missed thee)

I use cubase a lot, just getting into logic. Cubase is very good if you have a Midi keyboard.

Not too keen on Reason though.

but ableton live is just like them all combined !

i swear its the best thing since sliced bread :p

lol best thing to do is try demos of all the programs mentioned in here untill you find one you can use/that suits your needs

Mate, i want to make a band and make awesome music...

i have loads of ideas...just cant think until i feel im comfortable in a band...

its a weird feeling.

if you play bass or drums and near newcastle...awesome :)

There's a list in the GW thread.

Yes, and I'm on three.

To your next question;

No, you can't have them and no, I won't say which.

Have you used real hardware at all? If so, you will love reason... 3 is especially good...

Also, try demo's of other things like ableton and see how you like 'em?

Also, there are some great little free plug-ins and apps if you hunt around... Like granulab. :)

Also (3rd time lucky), once you've done a tune or 2, post it up here, and we'll let you know if it's any good. ;)

Is 7.2pro much better than 5.5platinum? Does it have many new things?

I'm running on the PC, and cannot afford a mac right now, but it's oh so tempting.
