Hi all,

I am looking at getting a new 32" LCD TV in the next few months, but I am very concerned that my 18 month old boy will spoil it by touching the screen.

I currently have a 28" Sony Wega TV with a glass screen and once a week I have to give it a good wipe down as it is pretty much covered with little finger marks.

I'm pretty sure that LCD's do not have a glass screen and I am worried that it will be damaged or spoilt by his little hands. Can you easily clean an LCD screen?

I have a 3yr old and have cleaned my 27" Wharfdale a couple of times with those lcd screen wipes. Works well on fingermarks, but I would recommend cleaning the screen when its cold as they do get quite warm

Keep what you have, a kid will just scratch the plastic LCD screen knackering it. Or put it out of reach, or lock it in a cupboard only opening it when you are in the sitting room.

I would stick with the Sony CRT personally. I imagine it will produce a better picture than the LCD unless you are able to drive the LCD with some HD content?

Also, it's much more kid friendly. I imagine a kid could knock over an LCD, don't want it falling on them!

Perhaps, it doesn't take much to upset the eccentric weight of a CRT and they weigh a lot more though!

I assume plasma could cauterise the kids fingers?

It takes a lot more strength to tip a trinitron tubed TV.

A 32" Trinitron is around 65-70Kg!

I know they are front heavy but you have to tip them a lot before they will tip, alot of them are fastened to the stand/cabinet adding stability too.

So no LCD's have glass fronted screens?

I guess I may have to put off getting the LCD then. It only occured to me last night and the last thing I want is for the new screen to be marked. It's just not possible or reasonable to expect my boy to stop touching it.

We are planning on moving in the next 6 months, so hopefully we will get somewhere with a living room more suited for a wall mounted screen.

Our Sony CRT is a nice TV (KV28DX200 - Sony's flagship 28" before they stopped doing CRT), but I just wanted to see my 360 games in all there HD glory. Not much chance of him tipping it up though, I struggle to move it about! It weighs 65kg and there is a strap at the back that connects to the stand making it impossible to tip forward.
