Strictly my opinion but I think they should clock quite well, I do have a good source for the info they were originally intended for a higher clock than 880MHz which in the past has usually meant a good number will still hit the original intended clockspeed plus atleast 10% more.

You've every right to pimp them, great value card and you also got a great deal on them brand new with GTX 580 smashing performances. You're happy with your purchase and telling others about them is genuine advice :).

Heat wise I'd like to get back into ghetto cooling if a problem arose. So that would be fine.

Would my Corsair HX 620w handle SLI'd 470s?.

Even with a dual core I wouldn't reccomend running 470 SLI on less than an 800watt PSU tbh... I know I'm running on 700watt but this is a fairly decent unit.
 
I'm really tempted to buy another 470 to go SLI but i am also concerned about the psu issue with a I7 920@4Ghz watercooled, 3 Hdd and 2 DVD/rw's all on a corsair tx750 I'm really not sure if that would be pushing it abit too far.
 
It would be on either i7, i5 or Sandy Bridge so at least a quad but I'll keep money aside if whatever I choose pushes my PSU too much.

All I'll be getting now is one card to replace this 4870 and I'll add the second card when I build the new rig.

Well if you're worrying then maybe I'll just order a new PSU at the same time. Not wanting to build a massive paperweight :D.
 
i7 w/ 470 SLI will easilly do the best part of 600watt while gaming and upto 700watt in furmark (which doesn't really make much odds) depending on PC specs. The Corsair tx750 being a good unit would probably be ok but I couldn't really reccomend running with less than a 800-850watt psu.

that's the crux of the matter though, another £100/120 on a PSU does kind of kill the nice bargin of a second GTX470. :(
 
OP you only have yourself to blame for gods sake!

A) You didnt wait until the proper reviews came out and

B) You didnt then cancel your order when they did

i never ordered any card(s)....yet. Though im swaying to two 6950s.

also i don't think it was obvious, esp over the net, but the lasy sentense was meant to show sarcasm. Honest to god who buys a card due to a random person ona forum whos dog's, best friend's owner's cat, said that x card will be 10000% faster than an FX5800.

Just so you know, AMD don't make big monolithic chips and Nvidia do.

AMD for years have been pushing the value proposition message whilst Nvidia hasn't

Therefore, until this changes don't expect AMD to make a chip to fully compete with Nvidias fastest and MOST expensive.

Don't expect quantum shifts in performance from ANY manufacturer until you hear they are moving to a smaller manufacturing process.

Keep this in mind and you'll spend a lot less of your life with that disappointed feeling.

*Edit* Just a thought. The internet is full of tin-foil hat wearing head slappers, so don't go believing everybody on there. You may find yourself in a car with a stranger down a quiet lane topping yourself on car fumes thinking its for the greater good.
