i want my 40%

As kitch9 mentioned, AMD have stated years ago they are going for smaller more efficient chips which they can combine for better performance. nVidia going for the single monster chip.

So AMD always go for the x2 range as their top offiing and nVidia is going to struggle with power limits kicking in to match it with a 580 x2.

Plus 40% increase on the same process with a 300W spec limit just was never going to happen. This is as good as 40nm is going to get.

More fool the people taking note of what the idiots and fanboys post in here.

If you want an unbiased view about what card you should buy , this should be the LAST place you get information ;)

He started to wobble when numbers began leaking, and that wasn't 'well before' launch at all.

Facepalmzilla!

How was that a facepalm? He declared there was a problem before products were launched. Regardless of how you take it A) he was lying B) he was telling the truth .... he still said it was wrong before launch.

Bottomline is, if people wanted verifiable results they should have waited for reviews before purchase. Lol with OP :-)

I don't get why people thought that the 6970 was ever due to the match the 580? When the 6990 was always due soon.

Were people expecting the 6970 to match/beat the 580 and then the 6990 to fly us all to the moon? :O

I doubt anyone other than Raven really believed 6970 would be 30-40% faster than GTX580, but feel free to own up if you did. Raven was the only person on the internet quoting these kind of gains and even he changed his tune once real benchmarks began to appear.

It was obvious 24hours before launch that 6970 would be competing somewhere around GTX570 levels. Anyone who expected more out of these cards and ordered before launch was frankly trigger happy. Gibbo always said there would be plenty of stock to go around so there was no point in anyone ordering prematurely.

Personally, I expected the 6970 to match and perhaps beat GTX580 by a few percent, but I did also expect it to cost more too. I think very few people guessed right on price and performance, both of which turned out to be lower than the general consensus.

I can see the 6970 dropping in price by ~£20 after Christmas to help make it more attractive than GTX570. However, with VAT increases it is more likely 6970 will stay the same here and GTX570 will go up a bit.

People were merely expecting similar performance bumps to those seen with the 6800 series. 5700 to 6800 gave ~60-70% gains (rough estimate). Nobody really anticipated such small gains going from 5800 to 6900. I think even AMD must have been surprised.

Indeed - how did that happen? The 68xx series was supposed to be a refresh, and the 69xx series new architecture. Was the 57xx series released much before the 58xxx series? I assume they've just run out of room with their chip size.

So they've released an underwhelming 69xx series, and still taken my money - I've been duped!

The 40% gang have all crawled under I know nothing about nothing rock.

This forum is full of uninformed know it alls tbh.

Locky all you've done is throw insults to people over several threads regarding this AMD launch?. Seriously now, what the heck have you to gain through this to put all this negativity towards people over a flipping graphics card?.

If you love Nvidia that much then it's obvious that you're not mature enough to debate and discuss about this matter as you're too invested emotionally on the subject .

Between you, Cupra and Skyrocket. You're all as bad as each other and Skyrocket is currently suspended. I think you and Cupra should either quit the insults, debate in a mature manner or join them.

I'm really tempted to buy another 470 to go SLI but i am also concerned about the psu issue with a I7 920@4Ghz watercooled, 3 Hdd and 2 DVD/rw's all on a corsair tx750 I'm really not sure if that would be pushing it abit too far.

Running 2 x gtx470 overclocked to 839, 1 x i7 950 at 4.5Ghz, 2 dvd writers, 6 hard drives, TWO laing d5 water pumps and 6 120mm fans all off a Seasonic 850W M12.

So if you have a decent make psu you will be fine.

Your Seasonic M12 may be classed as 850W, but in reality it betters most high-end 1000W PSU's.

I would not recommend running a PSU over 80% of it's quoted rating. For 2x 470's and an i7, 850W will be fine, but if high overclocks are used a 1000W unit will be a safer bet. I am not saying 850W is insufficient, merely that you will be close to ringing it's nuts off.
