I want to build a gaming pc for £1000

The 670 is a cutdown 680 but surprisingly they cut off very little. We like the overclocked cards as they narrow the gap between the 670 and 680.

The cheaper cards will use the reference design cooler. As the price goes up the coolers change, also keep an eye on the warranties. I saw the KFA cards being spec'd but they have a 2 year warranty versus GBs 3 year warranty and the difference in price is only marginal.

You're not going to need HT unless you're doing a LOT of rendering.
Even if youre doing light rendering work (the odd 15-20min YT video @1080p), having Nvidia's CUDA cores will help out with that given the right software.
Get and i5 instead mate. More than enough for gaming.
The extra £100 or so will help towards a better GPU or SSD.
If go better GPU personally, thats the meat and potatos of any gaming rig, and overclocked K series chips (sandybridge onwards) aren't going to cause any real bottle neck, even for a 680.

Just my 2cents.

If it helps any I just got my new PC, with BF3 high on the priorities list.

Included I have Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [GV-N670OC-2GD] paired with Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz and Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77.

I have a 60hz monitor which means I cannot see FPS over 60 - so cap it there.

But on nearly all maps I can run at 60 with Ultra. Sometimes have to play with AA settings. But delighted with purchase and game looks amazing.

Am not tech genious, but let me know if I can help - as had similar requirments.

I don't like the new ivybridge cpu due to the high temps.

You still need a case and hdd, I can't choose them for you though :D

Another thing to consider is if you would plan on adding another graphics card. If so you should get a psu around the 650-750w mark.

basically you want

an i7
8 / 16 gb RAM
128GB SSD
I7 mobo (obviously)
GTX670
1 / 2 TB HDD
Case

Plenty of those above everything else wont really make much difference and same with brands

Well my Monitor is Real 120 HZ Samsung and you guys made great points with the I5 I7 price difference. I'll purchase a i5 and put my money towards a 680 maybe? But What 680 does everyone recommend.

The cheapest one is fine.
If you dont plan on watercooling, then get the cheapest one with a custom cooler. (Gainward Phantoms, Asus Direct CU etc etc)

If you think watercooling may be an option in a year or so, then get a reference design card (so water blocks will fit) and hold off from any graphics overclocks for a while.
