I want to learn guitar

The Pacifica is a great little guitar, plus the resell value is not bad.

Also instead of an amp you could always try Guitar Rig Pro. Ive been using it recently rather than firing up the amp. It sounds amazing for what it is. Also the demo is free and if you have a good audio card/device already your laughing. Plus no one will have to put up with your duff notes.

Edit: Also if you can get your head round tablature its a good place to start. When i started playing guitar at 14 i had several song/chord books, i probably opened them once. I started by playing notes from tablature to my favorite songs, its really encouraging playing along to stuff you like rather than zzz stuff. Think the first song (well intro/verse couldn't play the rest) was Whole Lotta Love from tab.

Strat style guitars are the most common for beginers like the yamaha pacifica's that have been posted above. The pacifica is better than most other strat style guitars because it has a humbucker pickup in the bridge position which would give you a wider range of tone. The only problem with that guitar is if you do stick with playing then you'll notice your "sound" or "tone" will be much to similar to other beginers and you will want something different.

I have seen reviews of this gibson epiphone special and they seem to paint a good picture for it. This would give you a "fatter" sound over the normal beginer tinny sound haha.

Also another option would be this Ibanez GRG. A friend of mine bought this for his first guitar and i have played it many times. I've played loads of guitars for example Eddie van halen Wolfgang, George lynch Kamikaze and the one thing i would say about the Ibanez GRG guitar below is that i can't believe that they can sell a guitar with such a good neck for so little money.

Theres some good advice for anyone looking to start playing. ROCK ON!!!!

Mums got an old acoustic, thinking of bringing it to uni and trying to learn during my spare time in the flat...

Best way to learn an acoustic on your own anyone? :p

Yeah go for it, just print off some guitar tab of a few songs you want to try. Learn the chords and go from there. Google a guide on how to read tab.

i.e. http://www.guitaretab.com/o/oasis/13758.html

Yep thats how i started, but you might want to check out Guitar Pro software because you can load tabs, slow them down, write your own tab, and play along so it really speeds up learning something that you find difficult.

You reckon the seller might go to 50 quid off ebay?

Or if he doesnt, and it doesnt go more than 75, is 75 a good price for it and thats the 012 pacifica with a marshall 10w i think amp.

If i did buy id be picking it up. Is their any way to verify it is a genuine 012 and any way to verify it is all working? As i wont have a clue what is and isnt working probably lol as all i know for now is you pluck and it plays a note and no i have no idea what notes are what so wouldn't know if it was tuned.

Just dont wana be ripped off. So any buying tips would be appreciated too.

Shame theirs no other guitars out there thats about 40-50 quid that are good quality and good to learn on.

Btw - If i suck at guiatar hero playing more than 3 fret buttons sometimes up to 4 but cant do 5, is it worth it all lol?

Looks fine for £75 or so.

As for is it working, get the seller to plug it in and play each string on each pickup and adjust the volume and tone on the guitar to make sure there are no untoward noises.
Its definitely a genuine Pacifica 012 btw.

The only way your going to get something for £40 to £50 is to go acoustic, a Yamaha F310 Acoustic would be a good choice.

What exactly are untoward noises and what do they sound like? As you know im a total noob and know nothing of guitars just that i wana try to learn one.

Crackling noise from the volume and tone when you turn them, also try the 5 way switch in each position and make sure when you strum the strings it works in all of the positions.

Thats about it, just check the general condition of it and if you happy get it, you could also do with checking the frets to make sure they don't look worn out but its not a 50 year old Fender so I'm sure they would be OK.

Worth getting maybe?

Other one i was gona get didnt sell so emailed seller see if he would deliver for 70 quid no word yet.

This new ones cheaper, and payed delivery but i duno. Doesnt come with a amp and lead and electric tuner like other seller. Cheaper but would be nice to get a package (with amp) etc setup bought as make life easier than to source diff things instead of all together sale.

Lots of dents and dings on it mate, but at the end of the day, they shouldn't affect the playability and sound. I'd ask for a better picture of the marks on the fretboard though, depending on what they're like that could be a deal breaker. Other than that it looks OK.

Can't go wrong with that for a first guitar. The Fender Squier Series is definately worth a look too, some of those can be pretty decent.
