Inspired by a thread i read on here a long time ago whereby someone wrote to a dealership claiming they were a super hero and required transport i chose to do something similar but opted for the sympathy vote,

I wrote:

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is **** **** i am 20 years old and i am in my second year of
university. I currently require a car as my 10 year old 'French' made
renault Clio has died on me. I have promised myself that one day i shall own
my very own BMW. I am writing to ask you to take pitty on me and loan me a
BMW for a year until I have worked for my years placement so i can afford a
second hand BMW. This would be excellent publicity for your company, you
could plaster the car in advertisments and most importantly you would be
making a future loyal lifetime customer a very happy bunny!

I thank you for your time in reading this e-mail and look forward to hearing
back from you,

Regards
**** **** (BMW fan)

They wrote back, with sympathy minus a car offer

Dear ****

Thank you for contacting BMW Customer Information.

We are sorry to hear that your current vehicle has passed away and are full
of admiration for the interest you are showing in the BMW marque.

However, although we are deeply sympathetic to your plight and understand
the situation you are in as a student, we are very sorry that we are unable
to provide you with a BMW as a loan car. Our publicity requirements are
catered for in the way of advertising and public days but if we were to
advertise in the manner you suggest, then we would put you top of the list
of recipients!

We would like to suggest that when you become a tycoon of industry, you may
wish to contact your nearest BMW Dealership to check out the latest BMW
variants. When you graduate, there are sure to be some very tasty models
available.

We would like to thank you for writing to us, for the fine taste you are
developing in a car and also take the opportunity to wish you the very best
of luck with your studies.

Yours sincerely

Im thinking of e-mailing back saying something along the lines of

"Im sure mercedes will be more sympathetic!"

Anyhoo made me smile

You cheeky beggar, I bet they had a good laugh. You might spoil the joke with the merc threat, pity they couldnt send you a sticker or flag or something for your loyalities

Of course they would respond nicely, all about publicity :P but if they did give u a car I can imagine a fair few thousand students writing letters

Didn't really think you'd get anywhere but all credit to them for replying. Either they have a well drilled public relations team there or they're all just very bored and have nothing better to do :)

haha like it was gonna say its a repost at first, but nice of them to reply in a polite manner. how long did the reply take to come, nice to see not all companies are faceless global organizations, but there are actually some people employed to keep them looking half respectable.

Exactly. I hope you don't spoil it by sending a silly reply. :)

Write a letter to renault saying your bmw has broken down, and you'd like a classy renault for a year.

They'll either die of shock, or send you a whole fleet! :p

Nice letter and great response :)

I'd leave it at that. They took the time to reply and were rather friendly about it too. Certainly one for your archives. :)
