i10 sick, guess the fault compo

I would hope the garage would make sure they find out and are 110% sure what the problem was to cause this. For this sort of failure on a 10k mile engine, something must have been wrong from the start.

If they end up rebuilding the big end without finding the root problem, in 20k miles you'll be back in the garage again.

well garage suspect big end bearing, though wont know till they drop sump tomorrow. They said crankshaft could also be trashed.

could be a long long job.....

At 10k miles, surely it'd be better to replace the entire engine rather than fix a duff one?

If that happened to me at 10k I would loose confidence in the engine.

Id' be shocked if a main dealer was allowed, had the ability or wanted to spend the time rebuilding an engine, a new one will be shipped in and installed i would have thought.

The noise seems to be at half engine speed; does it double in frequency as you rev the engine or does it always remain at about half engine speed?

I'll post back what the conclusion is, but if something this major fails on a engine this young I think hyundai should replace whole engine. (should I try and insist this ?)

Dealer said that Hyundai hardly ever replace engines but instead insist on rebuilds... Apparently parts are in short supply so it may be a long wait. I'm hoping Hyundai can provide a loan car.. I assume they should anyway.
