Hi all,

I am speccing up a rig for my dad as he wants to get into MSFS2020.
We used to fly together a lot in FSX years ago but since I bought my own house he hasn't been able to as I took my rig with me.

We have a budget which I'm trying my best to stay under and currently we are looking at a 3060, 32GB RAM, a 1TB M.2 SSD, 750w Corsair PSU and a spare Corsair case that I'm not using.

The only thing I'm struggling with is getting a good CPU under the budget that won't be a mega bottleneck.

Initially I looked at an i3 10100F as it seemed like a lot of CPU for the money but quickly crossed that off due to the relatively low core count. Apparently MS recommend at least 6 cores but their 'ideal' spec is 8 cores.

An 8-core CPU bumps up the cost though so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiencing on running the 6-core i5 10600K for Flight Simulator?

Also, we are only looking to game in 1080p at this time.
A 1440p monitor may be procured next year or something but for now, it's a 1080p jobby.

Any advice and pointers greatly welcomed.

I use a 4790k and it runs f2020 well enough that I'm happy waiting until Zen4 or Alder lake s.

I nearly went for a 10600k then a 5600x but decided to keep waiting.

I think a decent 6c12t CPU will be fine for fs2020 on a budget, especially as they continue to optimise for CPU as it's on xbox

Thanks for the reply.
I actually managed to rejig some things and squeezed in a Ryzen 7 3700X under budget so went with that in the end though I have no doubt the i5 would've done a stellar job.
