As i suspect some earlier models might not support IB CPU'S.

Yeah that's what's annoying, I'll have to get a SB if I get one since I really cba to buy a £35 celeron to update the bios and no one i know has an intel processor i could borrow for 2 mins

Would some z77's have this problem also as im sure they were out well before ib

If you go for an IB cpu, make sure the Z68 has an up to date bios, or the cpu will not work. Looking at on the EVGA website, the last bios update was 03/10/2011, so you would need to make sure you can use the IB with their boards.

How about grab the free Z68 board, and see if a IB CPU works on it? You could save the board money and have more to spend on the graphic card. If it doesn't work, you can just grab a Z77 board then. However you might need a SB CPU in order to upgrade the bios on the Z68 board.
