Basically i am creating a new rig. Will be running 1080ti then eventually in SLI when I can afford.

Been doing a lot of reading around and currently value for money the 7700k gives the best frame rate pretty much I can see even though it being an older chip. Unless you want to spend silly money on the i9 series. Thing is I dont want to be shooting myself in the foot yes it gives good FPS now but lets say in 2 years time when newer games come out should I have gone for something with more cores and have waited and saved myself a couple more years before having to upgrade?

All help thanks in advance!

8700K is the king of gaming right now... end of discussion... it has 6c / 12t so gives you a bit of future wiggle room. 7700k is garbage now, i know this is true because the internet told me so! but yeah wait for the 8700K, or better still wait til the z390 platform next year!

In all seriousness though, id not even consider a 7700K now and im a very impatient person, just hold out for the 8700K. And dont mistake price with better gaming performance, im fairly certain no i9 will beat the 8700k in gaming right now.

Also why bother with dual 1080ti? by the time you get your 8700K the Nvidia 11XX cards will probably be close to release, flog off the 1080ti and buy the new 1180ti!.

Mobster: Thanks for the info, I forgot to mention the last pc i built was around 6 years ago with the quad core q6600 chip. So I am quite out of date with ongoings in the latest cpu and gpu technology. From what I can see there isnt much difference between the two from the this video.

Probably because until recently it was the best CPU for gaming, then the 8700K came along and beat it, however 8700k is a rare commodity at the moment, have a google around and check youtube, you will see the 8700k handily beats the 7700k, and besides who wants last gen junk when you can get more for your money with the newer gen stuff.

Mobster You say its a rare commodity at the moment. It's not even released for sale.

Do you have a gaming rig now,OP and if so what CPU does it have??

CAT-THE-FIFTH: No not yet I just have the case the Silent Base Pro 900 and just about to buy the PSU. Next up is the CPU which is why im enquiring on these forums
