i7 920 to Ivy Bridge : A worthwhile upgrade?

My D0 runs stable at 3.9 on stock volts. Still don't get the rubbish overlclocks some are getting, regardless of them being C0. Makes me think something other than the CPU is wrong.

Bios, nubje oc settings?

Not every chip is the same. Back when released many would get to 3.8-4 absolute max. Some lucky with 4.2 with good chips. 4GHz is really not guaranteed with a c0 920 at all.

My old 920 ran at 3.9 on stock volts to;) Still an awsome cpu and not worth upgrading imo . I only upgraded to a 980x as i got a deal on one i could not refuse and those extra cores for music production really help.

Sticking with what I have also unless we have a machine fail and needs replaced.
Will need to replace my gpu at some stage, but money will go to housemoves etc first.
Regarding gaming performance, most things will not be hindered as the game are restricted in the number of cores they use. When ps4 and xbox720 come along the number of cores those use for cpu might start to influence the way games are written.

Stick with 920 for now.

The only problem with mine was the temperature it was running at. So I bought a new cooler over the weekend so I don't get tempted to upgrade (it doesn't take much). All running fine now.

You must be able to get more than that OC. I have the same board with with HT off get 4.1 and that is a stepping c chip

Hijack: Can people help me decide either LGA 1155 (Z77) or 2011 (X79) please :)
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18398184

What do you want to use the machine for? The 2011 processors and boards are a lot more expensive and the usual 1155 boards and processors deliver amazing results. I would have thought you would have needed to be doing lots of processor intensive things that are multi-threaded before the 2011 could be justified.

For the usual things we do - Office, Internet, Games - the 1155 format ought to be fine. Heck, I am doing these things on a Q6600! I'd think long and hard before going with 2011.

It's all in the thread :)

Actually the difference between my choices is £60 and I do a little more than office, internet and games.
I think it's more about upgrade path. Ivy Bridge is the end of 1155 lets face it. whereas LGA 2011 will most probably get the Ivy Bridge-E at some point. It still has some sort of future and my annual upgrades do not :( buying a house next year.

Why not sell your C0 and get a 920 D0 or some other cool thingy, maybe even a 970 6core ;) second hand maybe?
my i7 920 D0 @ 4Ghz does the job pretty well, GPU's 100% use :)

I`ve just done that. :)
I`ve seen Ivy`s benchmarks results and I was really disappointed. I have 24 GB Ram, which is enough for the moment.
So, I bought a week ago, from eBay, one lovely piece i7 970 CPU, replaced my faithfull 920 and watercooled the "new" i7 970, overclocked to 4.2 GHz, also bought 2 x Crucial M4 128 GB (on a Asus P6T in Sata2 Raid0) and I have to say that I`m a happy bunny. :)
Here`s my Cinebench test result:

I do hope Haswell will be a better candidate for my future upgrade, cause I don`t really want to get rid of my money. There are a few things I like about Ivy and the new platform, but more about this in some other thread.
