Ian Beale from Eastenders.....

I dont think I'll ever get why stuff like Eastenders is so popular.

It isnt about ANYTHING. There is no real theme. At least dross like 'Holby City' is actually ABOUT something.

Honestly, you people who think thet EVERYONE knows about UK TV crap are obviously completely delusional.

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what stopper was talking about. Rebecca? Who?

I could probably tell you some of the names of the long term characters. But regarding specifics about the plot, forget it. I think there was someone called "Tiffney" who got run over. And another time a person got shot. Cant remember if it was Dirty Den, or one of the Mitchel brothers?

But really. I neither watch it, read about it or talk to my (equally disinterested) friends about it.

I couldn't care less. And in fact, if anything, actively try to avoid it.

To be fair whilst its usually painfully obvious when somebody pretends not to know who, say, Lady Gaga is that they are just trying to seem elitist I had no ida who 'Rebecca' was either.

Haven't you watched it properly before then?

It's ABOUT Phil Mitchell almost punching something every episode, and on occasion actually punching something. Great to watch.

it a general serial, the plot arc changes once in a while but it's like far from the madding crowd just a simple melodrama with the odd bit of fornication.

I just googled pics of "Eastenders Rebecca", hoping to post "Oh thats who it is!", but actually I still don't recognise her! :p :D

You’re not the only one. My wife says it was a little girl. She was Martin and Sonia’s daughter and left the series a few years ago.

I've always been a bit concerned about British peoples obsession with hospital dramas. I mean watching people suffering is pretty much the last thing I want to invite into my home for the sake of casual entertainment.

It's like ok so there was a boom in this type of thing when the big budget "ER" was popular (not that I liked that either), and then UK people latched on to it but just haven't been able to let go.

Even back in the oldschool casualty days I never understood why watching people recieve injuries and precede to suffer was considered prime time saturday evening entertainment.
