So I'm de-icing my car this morning, scraping my back window when I see its all fogged up on the inside. I get a cloth and go to wipe it away (took some good muscle power to get the back door open!) and realise that its not fogged up, its actually covered in thick ice on the inside.

I told my mate and he reckons I must have a leak somewhere. Is he right or is it just that its seriously cold out there?

Apologies if its a stoopid question!

You must have somewhere that moisture is getting inside the car. Be that a perished rubber door seal, a leak through something like the sunroof, or the aerial, or something else.

Left any windows slightly open? Neither of my cars had that issue today though the outside was seriously iced up. vote on some sort of leak if you did not leave anything open.

Mine does that quite often. I reason that it the small leak that sometimes happens in the door seal or leaving the interior wet after driving with the roof down in the rain!

quite possibly the car would have been very warm inside when you parked it up due to the heating system.
Obviously the outside temp would have been a lot lower and condensation would have formed on all warm to cold surfaces then froze.
This would account for a large amount of the frost/ice; coupled with the fact the carpets may have been damp it all adds up.
Maybe there is a small leak but I doubt it.
What kind of vehicle is it?

I used to get this with my first car. In the summer it was like a swimming pool, in the winter, you had to scrape the ice of the inside first. I never did find the source of the leak.

Are you letting air circulate from out side the car to inside or are you just re-circulating the air from within the car when you have the hot air blowing in ? as if you are just re-circulating air from within the car its going to be damp due to you breathing out.
My girlfriend had this problem and i said to her to make sure she brings fresh air in the car and to clear the ice problem she had inside to have the heat blasting for say 15 mins when she was on way home then on the slow parts home open the window abit to leave the warm air carry the moisture out of the car and it solved the problem for her.
