Update: Forum reports now indicate that the original HTC Sensation is also getting the ICS update, though for the moment it seems to be limited to Germany and Nordic countries.

Have a German HTC Sensation XE? Looking for your Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update? Tired of us asking questions when you know darn well where this is going?

That's right, boys and girls, it looks like the ICS update is starting to hit the Sensation XE in Germany, along with an update to Sense 3.6. You're not going to get all the features in the new Sense 4, but somehow we think nobody's going to turn this one down.

HTC had promised the update would hit by the end of March. So that we're seeing it drop in Week 2 is pretty promising. Other phones expected to get ICS this month are the HTC Sensation and Sensation 4G, followed by the Sensation XL.

Seems that the Sensation XE is the first non-Nexus phone to get ICS, as it's rolled out today in Germany and Finland. I'm currently eagerly awaiting it rolling out in the UK, but figured other users would be interested to know :)

They do indeed :)

You'll probably be on HBoot 1.27 and firmware 3.32.401.5 or .105 for the XE :)

I don't think people waiting for the ICS release from HTC will be too overwhelmed though, as it looks scarily like Gingerbread, and HTC broke the multitouch driver!

I've been using Face Unlock since before Christmas, and it gets very boring very quickly! :P

Sense 4 on the Sensation looks like a much better upgrade, but it's a shame that they won't release it as it conflicts with new releases :(

You guys should reallly root your phones :o then you wouldn't have to wait to try out these new updates.

I've been using ICS on my desire HD for a while now, and I've also played with sense 3.6 on it too. It's certainly an improvement, but I hope sense 4 is much better.

Does everything work perfectly? Hardware acceleration, video camera etc? I would say that the Desire was one of the biggest dev phones out there so I wouldn't be surprised, but many other phones are not so lucky so get full support. Most ROM's are lacking in certain area's, and so it pays not to use anything but stock sometimes. My O2X is rooted for example, but rooted, and reflashed with an Italian official release ROM that has been rebuilt and had other tweaks put in. I prefer this full functionality over a semi-working ICS install.

Does anyone know anyone in Germany with an HTC Sensation XE then?

Nearly all the ICS desire and desire HD roms have semi-working cameras and are only just now getting working Wifi/Bluetooth/GPU accelleration.

However, someone has just dropped the HTC One S RUU (virtually identical to the DesireHD) today so the devs are all over it in the DesireHD forum, watch out tommorow for working Roms :)

Everything works perfectly for the ICS Rom, some people have camera issues, but mine has been fine.

For the sense 3.6 Rom, it's all still in early stages so a lot of stuff like Wifi, camera etc still doesn't work, but it's still good for a playaround and I know what to expect when some fully functional sense 3.6 roms are available for the DHD ;)

It depends on whether you flash a true AOSP ROM, or a Sense based one.

AOSP ROMs are lacking behind at the moment as there hasn't been an officially released kernel source or libraries for anyone to play with. The ajority of AOSP ROMs for the Sensation have broken Bluetooth, phone Force Closes, camera instability and other niggles.

Sense ROMS are pretty much perfect as they are simply modified to add functioanilty to an already working base. Camera, Bluetooth etc all work fine, as they should do with an official release. (Well, apart from the HTC borked multi touch driver problem they missed)

I've been using and adding some mods to Virtuous Inquisition which is the latest Sense 3.6 release, but with an AOSP like skinned framework, and AOSP applications modified to replace the Sense ones (like the phone functionality for example)
I've been using it as a daily driver since before Christmas. :)
