I just got a new 3G phone and my sister wants to buy my old 2G one, but she is on PAYG. As I am on a proper iphone O2 contract I never tried jailbreaking the phone.

I read around a bit and watched a few youtube videos but theres a lot of info out there and a lot of it is for the 3G now.

Can anyone tell me the simple steps to jailbreak my 2G on 2.0.2 firmware to work with her PAYG sim?

Is it as easy as install WINPWN 2.5, connect iphone and run through the process? Is WINPWN the thing to use, as I've also seen ZIPHONE mentioned?

Thanks

Wow, that would be a bonus if I don't need to jailbreak - but not sure what network she is on. If she is PAYG would it be relatively easy for her to switch to O2 PAYG and then get an internet bolt on for the mail/web access? (never had PAYG so not sure how they work).

According to the WINPWN website and various youtube videos WINPWN 2.5 will do 2.0.2.

So I'm guessing that as she needs to stay on Vodafone contract she'll need me to break it using WINPWN.

Am I getting confused between jailbreak and sim unlock here? She won't be bothered about installing loads of apps on it, just wants to be able to insert her Vodafone SIM and use the phone - is this a different process?

EDIT > is this a pretty good explanation of the unlock process?

You want to unlock it, not jailbreak.

Download winpwn 2.5, and its literally a step by step process.
but, i'll try and explain.

Download the 3g version 2.0.2 from.. anywhere.
put it on your desktop.
open winpwn, click on the 3g iphone, click 2.0.2
click no to 'official carrier'
no again
itll search for the 2.0.2 version, which is on desktop
then do its thing, this will take 10 mins or so.

once its done you'll have a custom file.
put the 3g iphone into DFU mode (hold top and bottom for 10 seconds, then release top and hold bottom till it beeps/screen goes off)
Itunes will say the phone needs to be restored
hold down tab and click restore, locate the new ispw you've made, and itll take 20ish minutes to load it on.

That's great, exactly what I wanted. I take it the process is the same even though it's a 2G iPhone?
