Hi,

Been putting it off for ages but eventually decided to install IE 8 today as I performed my Windows Updates. All installed as normal.

However, now I find that absolutely no hyperlinks from any pages will open. Either in a popup, new window or new tab. It just sits there and either does nothing or in the case of the new tab, just says "Connecting". Everything was fine in IE 7 before I installed the IE 8 update and links are working as per normal within Opera and Firefox on the same PC.

Googled it and tried a cmd line fix but no joy. Any help and advice appreciated!!. :(

*EDIT* Running Vista Ultimate x86, forgot to mention!.

Not putting up with this nonsense!!. :o

Reverted back to IE 7 and everything is back to working as normal. Curious as to why this problem appeared though, having done lots more Googling it looks like it is quite a widespread issue with no clear cut "fix".

May well try installing it at some point further down the line as a standalone download rather than via Windows update but not anytime soon. I use Opera anyway, but was just curious to give IE 8 a go ( plus Windows update kept nagging me to do so :p ).

You may have been dealing with a rogue add-on. Try running IE in No Add-ons Mode. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) - If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and enable the add-ons one by one to find which one was causing the problem.

If you’re still not having any luck, I recommend you reinstall IE8 on your system.

Yeah I reckon it was that... you don't have AVG installed by any chance? That crappy LinkScanner screwed my IE install up a long while a go (don;t use AVG anymore)?

But it does sound like a add-on messing it up to me.
