If I purchased a sim free iphone 4s.....

Hmmm thats not good! The carphone warehouse guy told me it was fully unlocked and I could chop and change between networks as I pleased.

Its even advertised as sim free and unlocked.

What to do now?

Its a bit late for that, as I already have the handset. I was going to leave Tesco mobile and go with voda but the voda sim surprise surprise doesn't work in the handset.

No literature in the shop informed me that it would lock to the first network sim inserted. Can I ask for my money back as apple aren't willing to help?

Thanks.

Its listed as sim free, every other sim free phone they sell doesn't latch itself to a network as soon as you feed it a sim card.

I asked the guy when I was looking at phones that sim free meant not tied to any network and he said yes, as the sim free ones are generally cheaper due to being subsidised by the networks.

I was wrong, Sorry Mike.

You've no need to apologise mate, I was wrong to buy Apple.... :(

its pretty straightforward normally to get them unlocked by the network, its a technicality basically.

I knew what I was buying and how I was to go about unlocking it before I bought mine from CPW, it was just easier for me that way.

Whatever netowkr it gets locked to will have a procedure and I bet it's easy then once it's an official unlock it just stays unlocked permanently no matter what sim you put in.

Indeed, but I was told it was sim free and I could change networks as often as I wanted to with no issues.

^^ You're probably right. I think I'll ring them first (well the national number people) when I get back from work, which assuming all goes well today should be around 3pm!

Wish me luck ;)

Well cpw 0870 told me to get stuffed and ring apple. I rang apple and apple man told me "the phone was never unlocked and has ALWAYS been a handset destined for o2 sir....

The plot thickens and I'm back on the phone to carphone warehouse!

Update :

After speaking to cpw again and advising them that apple said it was an o2 handset from word go and that I wasn't informed I couldn't chop and change sims as I wanted to they've agreed to allow me to swap handsets.

I've got the choice of the balance of the 4s against another phone or if the replacement is less they'll refund me the difference as a cheque.

Well shock horror! 25 mile round trip, time off work and they refused to swap it. The guy even had the cheek to ask me "why is it you want two different networks anyway" - well thats not really any of your business!

I paid for sim free and he assured me it was unlocked just like the Galaxy S3.

CPW head office email now perhaps but I'm stumped.
