As per the title, I've often wondered where I'd like to live if I didn't live where I am now (Wokingham). I have family close by, kids in school etc. and it's fairly close for work, but if I didn't have these factors I'd most likely live near Exeter. I spent a lot of time in Devon growing up as my aunty lived down there and I absolutely love it; it's got everything for me, a city, beaches, countryside, an airport, it's not a million miles away from the south and my family.

Bristol. I really like the city, lots of countryside nearby, near the coast. Pretty easy to get to London for excellent transport links. Seems it's got everything.
Don't think I can afford it though...

I'm now in London and I'd love to live in Cornwall. I love it there.

In fact, I'd probably be there if it wasn't for the fact that it would make seeing family and doing my hobby (motor racing) very very difficult.

I’m aiming to retire to Shetland. Absolutely love the place. Long as the kids are all grown up and settled.

on reality it’ll never happen - just a little small holding somewhere. Pretty lucky where we live now though, beach 10 min walk, city about 15mins by train, lovely hills about 25 mins drive away.

Where are you now, out of interest?

Somewhere rural, on a decent sized plot.

Cotswolds ticks most of the boxes other than too many tourists :p

Suffolk costs is nice, as is north Norfolk and the lakes.

Ideally London; if it wasn’t so expensive.

I’d always stay south of the midlands now, the north has nothing to offer anymore imo.

Anywhere but a major city, somewhere with big hills or mountains would be nice so probably wales or scotland.

I could be happy almost anywhere tbh as long as I can see more than concrete in the distance.

a small rural village would do me just fine

Literally trying to figure this out, as a born Londoner being priced out aged 33. I used to think small towns/other cities would be sleepy or rural but everywhere I visit seems nice.

If it had to be somewhere I've actually been and got to know, Liverpool was nice. Friendlier people, nice size town to walk around/into/out of, and cheap. But I doubt I'd want the weather all year round.
