If you could start your own business...

nothing to do with the degree i'm struggling through but if / when that all goes arse over tip and i have to rethink my life plan - i would love to own a little cafe :)
just selling home made cakes / sandwiches / biscuits - none of this fry up malarkie
preferably by the sea

my mums idea was to set up a typically english tea shop somewhere were exotic, but very touristly - maybe like a 'home from home' british shop (cafe cum mini corner shop) on a beach in thailand for all those home sick travellers.
sounds like a plan to me :) if anyone has the money to fund it....

Quoted for the lies.

It sucks.

I have my own business.

unless you make decent money at it (pay yourself 40k a year odd) it isnt worth the hassle in my eyes.

I cleared 27k last year.
I might of well been employed for all the hassle and hours i've put in.
Most small business owners i speak to say its hardly worth the effort these days.

Speaking
from experience this is very true.

You ever tried it?

I'll tell you now that, until you can afford to pay people to do all the work for you, it's ****. Unless of course you're one of these people who's convinced yourself that working 15 hours a day is what you want to do.

I think any trade who can predominantly deal in cash , ie; plumber, joiner are on to a pure winner. The taxman is killing the small business in this country.

Id sell stationary

Ordered some for work today, 25 suspension files cost £70!!!! I nearly had a stroke! Im so in the wrong business :D

Thank god I'm not footing that bill :D

What would you do?

Not that I'm clueless and looking to steal ideas, well I am really.

No really, I was reading the Daily Mail earlier today about a chap who started his company with just £1000 and now he has 2 million in the bank.

Baked potato stand in a really busy high street :D

I wouldn't mind being the CEO of a large investment banking and stock brokerage company. Aside from that I'd like to own a "Web 2.0" company which has an innovative, motivated workforce and gets one of it's brands sold to Yahoo! each week ;)

Although property development also sounds nice :)

In an ideal world, regardless of current knowledge, I'd set up a business dealing with medical technology - I once knew some people on a project to revolutionise medical vaccinations/treatment in third world countries, and I would love to support/organise something like that to change the world... tis the frequently hidden idealist streak in me ;)
