If you had 25,000 to spend, would you...

There's no denying that £25k buys you so much more performance, and something far more special than any hot hatch could offer. But that point is irrelevant now, as the OP has said he's not particularly fussed about hot hatches at all, and just happened to be looking at the Focus RS.

The real issue with this kind of budget, is what car can you afford the running costs of. Evos / Subarus arent cheap to insure, and M3 CSls arent either, and can be even more costly to maintain being an M car.

You would honestly waste 25k on that?

There is no waste. This is probably the "cheapest" of the bunch, seeing as its unlikely to depreciate - more likely to appreciate, in fact.

But yes, I would buy it without even thinking about it - seeing as a GT3 is a long way from my reach, this is the car for me. I just hope I can get there before the boat leaves and they shoot up in value.

Not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic with that comment !

Serious I hope. £25k on something from 2004 would get you a 2009 330i and since hot hatches were in the mix, that would be more than adequate.

Edit - is it really true that there's no more depreciation on that M3? REALLY?

100 % serious.

Thats an old car with a 5k low mileage tax tacked on. Several cars better than that for 25k.

So your going to buy it then not drive it? Because if you do you can kiss your depreciation proof goodbye.

They were a great car in their day but they aint Cayman / 997 great which at 25 and 30k is what they are competing against.

If all you're fussed about is image and subsequently a number on a plate, then sure. But for someone who wants a real weapon of a car, a 330 may as well be a Vauxhall Corsa next to the CSL.

I think you're mistaken, there is no money tacked on for low mileage - this one is actually close to the bottom of the barrel as far as CSLs go.

What better could be had for the money?

The CSL is regarded as being pretty special. Its in more limited numbers than the regular M3, which always helps residuals.

Its certainly not going to depreciate as much as a regular e46 M3.

At least post a pic of an STi that we're talking about rather than the even more bland WRX :p

Granted it's still not pretty, but at least has nicer wheels, beefier arches/bodywork, and is a lot quicker :)

Wouldn't touch any of them being UK 2.5L engines

The hatchback shape is apparently even more prone to failure than the saloon. Not even the 330s is safe.

Ths thread is just one of many

Me id have a 997 or a Cayman every day of the week.

You're scraping the bottom of the barrel for a C2 for that money, and you still don't have a car that is as good.

Depends what you want though. If you want a proper car, then the CSL is it. If you want to be a poser, then get yourself a 997 :) I'm belong to the former :P

Horses for courses. For your needs, then probably. Whilst it is a good car for my needs, I don't think it is quite up there with the CSL.

Remember that the CSL isn't just your run of the mill M3. It is lighter, a lower centre of mavity, focussed suspension, better brakes, a more powerful engine. This was supposed to be an uncompromised version.

I know you avoid the 2.5 like the plague, I was merely commenting on Robbies post saying how urgh the hatch impreza was when he's posting up a pic of pretty much the worst model.

My point was at least put a pic up that represents what the op would be looking at, not that he should buy one :)

I only posted that because I was still under the mistaken impression that he was considering hatchbacks, not because it was the most ugly Impreza :p.
