if you have a little spare time

is the only difference between these two harddrives the amount of memory they hold:

because if it was i may aswell get the 600gb one because i wont need a whole 1TB

Yes it is, also the size of the individual platters inside maybe denser, ie,

640GB = 320GB X 2platters.
1TB = 500GB X 2platters.

the denser the platter-generally the better the performance.

But to be perfectly honest, the 64mb cache and SATA6GB interface is a gimmick, as harddrives are to slow to need the fast interface speed, and Samsung F3 or Seagate Barracuda drives are just as fast with only 32mb or 16mb of cache.

So you can save money by picking one of these,

i was looking at operating systems and windows 7 with student discount costs £49 and extra tenner with backup disc...

it doesnt say whether it is a 32-bit or a 64-bit thought :/ i think i need 64 bit because apparently it has something to do with the RAM and how it works with the components

32bit operating systems can only use about 3.4Gb of total ram, the 64bit version can access way over this amount.

Does the win7 your looking at come with both 32+64bit versions? just like the retail copy.

im looking at a windows 7

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, English, 1 Pack, DSP OEI (DVD) (This OEM software is intended for system builders only)

does that last bit mean its suitable for me?
