If you lock your keys in the car...

Lies. We had a locksmith took 4 hours trying to get our lass in the house whilst I was at work once.

I put my boot through it when I got home, gave him £10 because I felt sorry for him, and bought the new door we needed anyway :p
Which lock?!

There are very few normal locks that take more than 10 mins to get into. Especially if you can damage it in the process.

Should have called the AA.

I've done it twice. The first time was in an old car that did not have central or remote locking, so I had the habit of locking the door and lifting the handle. This was on a 35 minute journey ferry and the crewmen told me that if I did not solve my issue by the time we got to port then they would have to smash my window.

I used a coat hanger and removed the outer window rubber - took 2 minutes.

The second time I borrowed a friends car who failed to tell me the drivers side door handle was broken. I got out to knock on someone's door and left the car running. This time I had to smash the window. Cost me £140 :(

Started my Corrado G60 once and noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet, it hadn't been run in ages so thought it was cobwebs etc. Walked round to check to see it was petrol hitting the manifold from a split pipe. However, I had shut the door and the antihijack system had locked the car with my only keys inside :(

Managed to shut the engine down before it went up in flames, then it took me a whopping 45 seconds to get in to the car with a coat hanger.

also had someone shut my keys in boot of my prelude. AA had to come out and spent 70 minutes trying to hook metal strip in to pull the door handle to pop the locks up.

It's not that easy to smash a car door window with a body part though is it, outside of Hollywood anyway :p

Scania trucks are notorious for doing this (doors self locking) - The solution, as demonstrated to me by Scania - is to force open the sunroof and use a very long piece of stiff wire to open the door from the inside using the door handle!

£300 odd Scania assist call out charge, or £200 ish for a new door glass..... Choices choices! :D

Or:

  1. Take iPhone out of your pocket
  2. Tap on the BMW App
  3. Enter your PIN
  4. Tap on "Unlock Doors"
  5. Wait a few seconds
  6. Open car door

What else does this app do? Also, how does it communicate? Does the car have some kind of sim card built in, meaning if you did it somewhere 'out of service' then you're still screwed? :}
