If you were a millionaire..

And surely if Millionaire is someone "whos net worth exceeds more than one Million", and I say "afford to", then Ive kinda covered bases, and you being pedantic isnt necessary? I mean, a Millionaire could be worth anywhere up to the 1 billion point yeah?

I'd stash enough of it away in decent investments that it can give me a decent income for life (obviously, this requires that there's quite a few million...). Then I'd blow the rest on interesting stuff while I'm still young enough to enjoy it :p

If we're just talking about £1,000,000, then I'd probably build my dream house somewhere nice and then see how much I had left over.

Max it.

In fact, I would be so concerned for my health if I did win a load of money, I would probably book myself into the Priory immediately for some pre-addiction therapy. :D

flying your own helicopters, you'd need to be super rich, putting together and expedition to climb everest with a full team behind you, also super rich.

Flying a helicopter, climbing a mountain(Snowdon) doesn't require being rich, neither does skydiving, nor most other things, likewise most of them are almost entirely safe when done properly with proper safety precautions, would you, just because you were rich, stay inside because even crossing a road can be dangerous? Would be a bit pointless.

Likewise getting a decent house for 500k, ok I'm sure you can, and infact I'd prefer to live in some fairly cheap but ridiculously big mansion out in the middle of nowhere rather than a penthouse studio for a 1.5mil in central London.

Also 5% return on 2mil would only be 50k after tax, not at all bad, better than most but not crazy playing around money, bills and council tax on a bigger house will take up a decent chunk of it

Meh, the main thing I'd do if super rich, would be to own more than one decent house, live part of the year in the UK, part in the states, part in maybe Barcelona, part on some distant not quite deserted, chavs not welcome, clear sea, fantastic beach having island aswell.

You can go skiing with better accomodation, sky dive more often, buy your own helicopter but none of that really appeals to me.

I'd love to couple a fantastic mansion on a paradise island with a fantastic sailing boat and learn to sail, that would require a lot of cash.

I would pay off my family house for my Mum and Dad, I would give my bother a small amount to shut him up for a while and the rest I would invest in my business (that I want to start). Obviously I would ensure that I had a nice place to live, wouldnt have to be a big house, I would love a little house with nice comforts. I would buy myself a nice car and thats probably it. I have known people with a lot of money before and its really gone to their heads, so much we no longer talk. I wouldnt be like that.

I just think it would be a bit of a kick in the balls if you took up such an exciting lifestyle then died in a helicopter or something :), not that you would be alive to care that is.

I think "got nothin to lose" affects me lol

I said it wouldn't give you crazy money but would mean you could live a lifestyle without having to work.
It seems about the tipping point, just about anywhere in the country, even London you can get a reasonably nice house for half a mil, some places it will be a shedload nicer granted.

And you'd get at least £70k after tax from the interest, set aside £20k for living costs, and you've got £50k to play with annually. It's not the mind blowing mansion/private islands lifestyle, but you would be living very very comfortably.

I'd set up a record label and a graphic studio to provide income, as well as a series of clubs for music lovers, not binge drinkers. I'd also own a café offering highly trained baristas and a variety of different beans.

Provided these go well I'd be able to spend my time exploring the globe.

This is basically my goal anyway, but a million or so would kick start things nicely... :p

Build big house, buy nice cars, go on multiple holidays in my private jet.

The ability to do what you want, when you want excites me more than £millions, but it seems the only way that's going to be a reality unless someone wants to pay on my behalf :p

Your OP was fine. Unfortunately there are scopers in every thread.

1mil i would:

100,000 house for me
100,000 give to dad
100,000 give to mum
100,000 give to sister
100,000 give to gran and granfer
2,000 pc for brother

Thats 498,000 left over which i would put in the bank to get some interest to help live off, still would need to keep working though.

100K to pay off the mortgage, and send my brother 100K to pay off his.
Without a mortgage, I'd keep working for a while and top up the remaining 800K.

At the previously mentioned 5% interest, I reckon I could live off it - hardly Oprah rich, but without paying £750/month on a mortgage, it'd be OK.
