Id get what i could then get the cpu and mobo when theyre available. That way you have all the parts ready and waiting and are only waiting on 1 more visit from mr citylink :)

yah thats the sort of thing im thinking of but im still wary of the problem is if I have a peace of hardware sitting around that may be faulty... paranoid I guess :p

Wait, keep your money.

The prices for the chips, boards and all the other components will have fallen by release day, and most places do next day delivery, then you have a whole seven days to sort it out.

Pre-orders are for those people with too much money look what happened with the 7900 and x1900 launches, prices fell very quickly. There will be no shortage of CPU's, if there is I'll eat my straw hat.

I agree with everything Journey said. Early adopters tend to get a.) overcharged and b.) the grappy first generation motherboards etc. and all the problems that come with them.

Wait until launch, or a few weeks after launch (around September would be best), and you'll see much lower prices and a much larger range of motherboards to suit your needs. The motherboards "available" now are, to be blunt, mediocre at best and way overpriced for what you get.

I would also buy the CPU now. I foresee shortages of Conroe based on the strategy that is being used by Intel. They aim to only have 20% of sales as conroe by the end of 2006. The huge majority of these will be through the likes of big brand PC suppliers.

I think that OCUK will get a good batch and that many of us will get one. Wait too long however and you might start to miss out. I remember reading the other day that OCUk has sold double digit figures of even the extreme edition and that was only a day or two after they were put on pre-order.

I would wait, and just place one big order. Why pay twice the shipping? And why pay for components which'll just sit in the box for a month or so?
