If you're a worldwide star you're destined to die young

Coincidence. It can't be a causal relationship, due to the fact that they died of different causes. If they had died of the same cause, there would be a bit more evidence to suggest that being a worldwide star meant that you would die early. There may well be a correlation, but no causal relationship.

Now how about this: if you post on OcUK, you're destined to die a virgin?

As a counter to dead young and worldwide stars - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and that's just the Rat Pack. You could just as easily pick Cher, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Twiggy, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Marlon Brando (another who arguably didn't die early enough), Paul Newman, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino...

*nb Elvisfan may be baying for my blood after that paragraph but nevermind.

aye heath ledger average actor before his death after his death hes suposed to be one of the greats

If anything Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley died too late - if they'd died a decade or so earlier they'd have avoided much of the sex scandals and images of the King overfilling sequinned jumpsuits/rubbish films (although he wasn't a bad actor with decent material) respectively*.

Not baying for your blood, but you are incorrect. Elvis's best music was created between 1969 and 1973. This was the first half of the jumpsuit era. 1974 was the beginning of the end, as Elvis became disillusioned with the music business and sank further into depression and drugs due to him not being able to mentally get past his divorce.

Watch this and tell me if this is an overfilled jumpsuit:

Anything after 1974 however, will show a heavier, less interested Elvis.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge, I was a bit off on the dates as it was just a random period picked out but I still think if either he or Michael Jackson had died a little earlier (whether that be 3 years or 10 years) they'd be even bigger stars than they are now.

I'm not the biggest fan of Elvis but he was a hell of a performer as your video there proves.

You are correct in one thing though.

Knowing what I do of Elvis's career and legacy, and with the benefit of hindsight, the world would have been kinder to Elvis's memory had he died in a plane crash after his monumental "Aloha From Hawaii" concert from January 1973. He was God-like at that show:

A bit off topic but I really don't see the appeal of Elvis. Maybe I'm too young (23) to appreciate him.

On topic, all the people the OP highlighted destroyed themselves with drug abuse (prescription, illegal or both). What is amazing is that there are exceptions to the rule that if you drink excessively and do drugs on a daily basis you will die young. Keith Richards is the prime example, as is Slash. I remember reading in Slash's autobiography that one of the GNR members drank so much whiskey (something like a bottle a day?!) his pancreas exploded. Yet they are all still alive and well.

Some people's bodies can't take as much as others, and some people handle fame well while others allow it to overtake them!

Seriously, if Britney Spears had dropped dead before she got married and sprouted out a couple of kids and went off the rails. We would all talking about how she would have had a bigger career than Madonna. Instead we are now moved on the next big pop act and she is not associated being that big anymore.

Its funny you should mention Spears.

Britney Spears was the 2nd highest earning singer in 2010. And this, after all her troubles, when most people wrote her off (including me). Only Beyonce earned more. Even Lady Gaga was beaten by Beyonce and Spears.

Forget that, the biggest news on that page is that Judge Judy earns $45m :O

Also someone mentioned Lemmy above, he truly is the counter argument to modern medicine

I knew she earned a lot, but I never new she was ranked so high. Apparently, over the years, many "judge" shows have come and gone. Her's is the only one that continues to pull in the viewing figures. With this in mind her television deal is very lucrative.

Why is it that people carp on about Elvis's weight? He was only 17.5 stone at his heaviest (18 months before his death) He was about 16.5 stone when he died.

It was the bags and bags of pills that killed Elvis, not the grub.

Thats ok then, so he wasnt a fat pig that killed himself by shoveling his face full of crap, he killed himself by shoveling his face full of pills.

Thats makes it all better.

Eh?

Lee died in a stunt, during filming for new movie. Right? Nothing to do with drugs.

His conclusion was that the death was caused by an acute cerebral edema due to a reaction to compounds present in the prescription painkilling drug Equagesic
reaction to a precription painkiller which wasnt prescribed to him
