Right, this is absolutely doing my ******* head in.

Everytime I load batman up from steam it comes up with this.

Unhandled exception from Microsoft .NET Framework.

************** Exception Text **************
System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException: External component has thrown an exception.

at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WndProc(Message& m)

So far I've reinstalled, GFX Drivers, .NET, DirectX, The game its self, contacted people on the eidos forum, nobody said anything. I bet you it will be something absolutely stupid and I'll feel like a tit. But :mad::mad:

When I click continue it ignores it but I can't see anything to press play or change details, I've also went to the steam apps, I get a General protection fault. My google foo is failing, my brain is melting... /punches a duck

tl;dr most horrible moment in personal computing for me ever. /cries

I have a 4850...

Please help. :(:(

Have you got the latest PhysX drivers installed if not get them from Nvidia (I know you have an ATI card) & PhysX are disbaled for ATI cards but thats worth trying.
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/physx_9.09.1112_uk.html

Have you tried uninstalling the game and AEGIS PhysX, and then reinstalling the game? Because i had similar problems with the last Medal of Honor game and I think this is how i solved it....

It mentions Physx so could be a Physx problem. Try uninstalling that and then reinstalling the game. If that doesn't work, install latest version of Physx and see what happens.

LOL @ 3 answers at the same time.

I didn't know if getting NV drivers would conflict, I will try that. :(

Edit - I installed the latest ones linked, same problem appears. I'll get a SS of it.

I will uninstall Batman again and re install with physx in the system, hopefully that'll help.

This any good to you?

A small number of users may experience a crash on start-up when
attempting to initialise the .NET framework for the Launcher application.
The Launcher application is required to customise your settings and has
to run before the game can be played.

As a work around, please copy the Eidos folder into your Documents
folder ("My Documents" in Windows XP). These contain some default
settings so the game can run.

However, the Launcher application still won't run and you may need to
tweak your settings for the best performance. To do so, edit the
Documents\Eidos\Batman Arkham Asylum\BmGame\Config\UserEngine.ini file.
The most significant performance improvement will come from reducing
the resolution (the ResX and ResY settings).

We hope to fix this issue in a Title Update. In the meantime, we
apologise for the inconvenience.

I think it's resolved... It won't work through steam but I can get it starting out of steam now. Good enough for me!!! :D:D:D

I can't seem to change the controls what so ever now, 360 pad is binded but keyboard isn't... :( Well my bro is bringing one up tomorrow at least.

You could always Dl a dodgy none steam version just to see if you can get it to work until they patch the steam one?

It works now but I can't move batman using the keyboard, doesn't seem to be binded and won't let me set it in the setting I get another .NET error. Madness I say.

I'll just download the other games I got and play them but was really looking forward to playing batman. /cries :(:(

Without looking up the specifics... it seems to be having problems reading the ini/config file... which suggests it might be being blocked by anti-virus or UAC.

EDIT: A few suggestions that it could be related to Windows Styles, specially if your using a 3rd party theme/style.

Should I turn UAC and/or AV off?

I don't really use anything elaborate with windows styles, just a new wallpaper of ME2. :(

One other long-shot that's worth a try and fixed NFS Shift for me in Win7 64bit was selecting 'disable visual themes' in the compatability options after right-clicking on the exe file.

No idea whether it'll work but it's worth giving it a try.

Thing is I can get into batman now but none of the keyboard commands are binded and nowhere is allowing me to change it.

I've tried changing all the config files, it just doesn't want to play ball with me at all. :(

In the launcher it's just blank and when I try to 'reset to defaults' I get this :-

Now I figure Rroff is right but I've tried changing them all and also the thread Fromez linked. /sigh
