i'm going to a shop in a 3 hrs, whats best phone

The sound quality is a close call but the interface of the iPod is certainly better.

I wish Google/HTC would pull their finger out and get a proper music application going for Android, they seem to underestimate the amount of people who double a phone up as an mp3 player!

Google music is coming out before Christmas apparently.

Edit: Spotify >>>> itunes (on both iOS and android)

Please point me in the direction where I said otherwise? Learn to read properly.

You said the iPhone has good build quality and functionality, when in fact it doesn't really have good functionality due to all the features I listed.

No need to try and insult me about my reading, not that there's anything wrong with my reading but thanks for your concern over my key skills development.

Well yes, it does.

You've based your statement on a selection of areas in which it fails by your criteria. Those criteria may not matter a jot to the next guy, who cares more about battery, screen, recording, build quality, etc.

So to say 'the iPhone 4 'doesn't really have good functionality' without adding any context, isn't really very useful.

It's like saying an Aston Martin is crap just because you have four kids.

Seeing as the phones the OP listed in his first post are all touch screen Smartphones, then the OP obviously wants a smartphone. By definition, the Desire is a smarter phone.

If he cares about battery and build quality, he should get himself a Nokia 2730 classic.

Seeing as the OP hasn't specified what he considers the best phone to have feature wise, then no one can really answer his question.

If he wants an over priced media player that can also make phone calls and send texts, then he should get an iPhone. You will notice a recurring theme though in this thread, those who recommend the iPhone 4, rarely list reasons why its the best phone.

I'll bet that's down to majority buying into the brand rather than understanding what other phones have to offer.

That, coupled with the fact most iPhone users have the impression Android is over-complicated, takes an age to setup and most of the stuff doesn't work properly. :p

Another example of how Apple have an integrated, successful PR machine for their i devices and Google don't for Android.

Stupid comment is stupid. If you want a smartphone that has a decent battery life and build quality and screen, then a Nokia 2730 isn't a very good choice, is it.

Because it's got a more premium feel, a better quality screen, better battery life, slimmer and therefore fits more easily in the pocket, All of those are valid reasons (that have already been mentioned, not sure where you get your bit of info about people rarely listing reasons why the iPhone 4 is better) so you can't just say 'it's not functional'. To many people that just want to email and facebook and a few other everyday smartphone things, it's more than functional enough.

I'll bet that's down to majority buying into the brand rather than understanding what other phones have to offer.

And that's another thing the iPhone 4 has going in its favour, a stronger brand image. Again, it may not matter to you, but for some that's a factor. And iPhone 4 users get more sex.

It's not a stupid comment, I'm saying you can't want good battery life and want a smart phone. Good battery life is having your phone last a week, with Bluetooth on constantly like my work phone.

It's a well known fact battery technology hasn't kept up with the rate of power drain coming from the latest phones, all smartphones have poor battery life, its just become accepted you have to charge your phone at least every other day.

You can't say it has a better quality screen, it has a higher resolution screen but it requires a powerful back light as its IPS. That means compare to AMOLED, you won't have good representation of dark colours. So both screens have positive and negative points.

Read the thread, there's at least 3 iPhone users who have recommended them and not wrote more than a sentence, not given any reason why they recommend it over the alternatives.

All I know is the HTC Desire can do more than the iPhone whilst being cheaper.

Don't go in there, its a soul destroying place :p

Lol :p

Look, lets end this once and for all:

:p :D

Lol on a more serious note:

Android is by far superior to apple, apart from some small things:

The only thing that is good about the Iphone is that it's simple to use, some things can probably be done better on the iphone than the android mobiles.

The iphone might beat the lower end android mobiles but against the nexus 1, HTC desire, samsung galaxy S, it just simply does not meet there standards for most things.

There is only apples 3 iphone mobiles with there OS, so people are limited to what mobile they want, where as with android, you have got sony ericsson, motorola, HTC, samsung and LG etc. who have the android OS, so tons of variety with hardware features and different looks of mobiles and different prices ranging from as cheap as £130-£450 etc.

Even though apple has a lot more applications are they as good as the android applications. To me it's about the quality of the apps not the quantity ;)

Also IMO Steve Jobs is a complete idiot, who was it that was giving abuse about multitasking on android, saying about battery life and it not being necessary or something like that, o yeah that's right steve jobs and yet what has he gone and done now, Oh, implemented it now into there OS, LOL.

Also saying about flash not being necessary, again LOL.

I will admit that some of androids OS needs a bit more polish but as time goes on that will vastly improve especially when gingerbread 3 is released.

Plus with regards to battery life on my samsung i5700, I get 2 days and a bit now since being rooted and a custom firmware/ROM on my mobile. That's with the news and weather (genie widget) updating every hour, wifi on 24/7 (I find that the 3G kills my battery life more than wifi being on), auto sync for gmail and hotmail on, brightness set to 50% and 100% when outside, playing games, including the SNES emulators etc. Watching a view youtube videos, phone calls, text messages, taking photos and recording videos, browsing the internet for 1-2 hours a day.

Plus apple is a complete rip off, really annoys me the prices they charge for there crap. You can either get the galaxy s, HTC desire or the nexus 1 for far cheaper than the ifail 4, o sorry I meant the Iphone 4 :p, IMO they do more than half of the stuff that the iphone 4 can do but do it much better and for a far cheaper price.

Also if you get an iphone 4, make sure you get a bumper for it :p

I must have been out of the country when that law was passed . The iPhone 4 on average lasts like 2.5 times as long as the Desire. To some, that matters, like it or not.

You can't say it has a better quality screen

If you can say that the iPhone 4 is not functional, saying that it has a better screen sounds genuinely enlightened by comparison.

Learn that your priorities are not the same as everyone else's.

To be honest, I don't think you were out of the country, more likely just not with us up stairs.

I'm not saying that the longer battery life doesn't matter, but neither the HTC Desire, iPhone4, Samsung Galaxy or <insert any top end smartphone> have "good" battery life.

If someone turned around to me and said they wanted a phone with good battery life, then I wouldn't recommend any of these phones.

Where are you getting the 2.5 times battery life from as well? Seeing as battery life is dependant on what you have syncing, the frequency of syncing and it also even comes down to how good your phone signal is.

30% of my Desire battery gets me 24 hours use, with everything on autosync. So roughly my Desire will last me 72 hours. So are you saying your iPhone4 can last 7.5 days on one charge?

With moderate usage, you can get 5, maybe 6 days out of the iPhone 4, that depends entirely on what you are doing for 'usage' though so its fairly inaccurate.

If someone turned around to me and said they wanted a phone with good battery life, then I wouldn't recommend any of these phones.

And what would you say if someone said they wanted a smartphone with good battery life, which is a more relevant question .

I don't know why you keep prattling on about phones that aren't even smartphones, try and at least stick to the subject of smartphones.
