I'm guessing this is normal

I am 40

I am going to see a megadeth covers band and have a few drinks..I may end up drunk, I may not, but thats not my intention, I intend to enjoy myself with friends, the amount I drink isnt proportional to my enjoyment

if you need drink to enjoy your friends company, then maybe your friends are not so great!

I go out and I'll drink but I never aim to get smashed, it'll either happen or it doesn't, or i'll go home sober and still have had a great time.

Just go out to have a good time, if you go out with an aim of just getting smashed you probably wont have as much of a good time and if you did you will probably forget half of the night anyway :p

this thread is a typical example of binge drinking culture we have :(

Getting bladdered to the point where you throw up or pass out...where is the fun in that?

I don't think anyone has actually said that, have they. Quite a few people said they enjoy a few drinks, end of story.

Im 20 and do enjoy going up town for a laugh with my mates. I find the more i drink the more relaxed i become. The stress from work dissapears and all becomes good :D

I must admit i do drink abit OTT sometimes!

Fosty Jacks

Drank an entire bottle of that a couple of weeks ago (corner shop was selling for 3 quid)

Pass out isn't the word.

Never again. And this is a Uni student saying that :(

I was talking to some friends today and they told me their plans for friday night and how they want to get smashed.

I'm guessing this is typical behaviour of people in their late teens, but I told him that you don't need loads of alcohol to have a good night out, he and lots of other friends disagree with me.

Am I just too mature for my age, or do I have a point?

the OP's comment begs to differ from your statement ;)

Some people like drinking, some people don't and some people aim to get absolutely off their face.

You don't have to drink, that's fine, but don't start preaching because that's how you lose friends :)

Preachy preachy!

I do enjoy a drink, usually get over excited and end up a mess; all in the name of fun and mischief.

Never plan on going out and getting "smashed" unless something bad in life has happened :P If I end up "smashed" then so be it :D

Your right you don't need to be smashed to have a good time but I find it so annoying when you go out and your the driver, all your mates are talking drunken nonsense that seems so stupid to you.....if you was drinking with them it would be funny.

You don't need to get smashed to have a good time but.....

I'm going to offer you some advice:

You're young, take full advantage of that. Yes getting smashed is stupid, yes you will do stupid things, yes you may end up with a girl in your bed who has a distinct look that reminds you of a sasquatch but you'll also have some awesome memories which you can reminisce about in the pub when you're an old man.

Don't waste your youth acting older than you, there is plenty of time to worry about the boring stuff later in life.

For now... Just Have Fun!!

Source: Me, wasting my teen years worrying about pointless stuff rather than just enjoying the moment.

i hate being out when everyone else has had a few jars and i'm the only one sober. i call that a crap time.

get a few down your neck and get slightly drunk it'll make it much better. you don't have to get wasted to the point of passing out/spewing up.

i know when i've gone too far when i lay down on the bed and think, this room spinning isn't going to help me keep my cheese chips and gravy down at all. :p

edit: 24 here for the record.

Im off out tonight to see a band have some booze and some food....i will get drunk but nto OOOOO MAAAA FACEEE YO, I save that for once or twice a year lol

I believe "binge drinking" is what they used to call "drinking" - dont buy in to the governments all young people do NOWDAYS is get drunk. because all young people did BACK IN THE DAY was get drunk. You just hear about it a lot more now.
