The new Metro Centre Odeon opens tomorrow and they have the IMAX there, i have been looking on the site and see they have a 'gallery' showing of select films, has anyone been to one of these before? Its around 18 quid a ticket so quite expensive but it looks quite nice.

Ill be keeping a close eye on this - I have never done Imax(Gallery before), as i have just purched Imax tickets for Avatar it come to £76 for four of us. However im sure ill make up for in free Nancho's popcorn and drink.

I work at the Odeon at the MetroCentre.

Our gallery seats our really designed for comfort and for couples. Plump up the extra money if you want to cuddle up with the missus.

If you want full on film enjoyment (Which you do!) buy 'Premier' seats. They are in the best location.

EDIT : The Imax at Waterloo (I assume you mean the one at the BFI) is an analogue Imax system. Our Imax is only a touch shorter but has a better image

Cinema prices in general are ridiculous, let alone IMAX which is an overpriced money making joke.

I don't care if I get a sofa for me and my missus anything over £10 each is taking the ****.

If you had any idea how much work goes into making a good film then maybe you wouldn't be so ignorant on the topic.

Whilst I agree with you that £10 is an excessive amount to pay for an average film, it's a minuscule price to pay for a good one.

A good film will get you thinking about polemical topics and how they have an influence in your life. You can see it as a experience if you wish, and £10 to experience something that you won't forget for the rest of your life is as I say, minuscule.

I dont have an issue paying 18 quif each to go to a film if its a good one, im not talking every other week here, maybe twice a year and the poster above got mixed up with IMAX and IMAX Gallery, they are different. Magic Pirate what do you get free in the Gallery showings? Just free soft drinks?

@ Seft - I believe our Digital Imax is 85ft diagonally (I'll speak to our technician tonight to check when I'm in to confirm) When you look at it, it is bigger than a large semi-dtetached house! I ******* love it!

@ schnipps - Our gallery price includes some popcorn and a bottled drink currently. You also get access to our VIP gallery bar that has its own menu not available in our Ambar.

So does the new Odeon open today? I assume you work in the old one and everyone is just moving over, i didnt even know there was an IMAX in the old one? Or are we just talking the new un-opened one here :)

Only IMAX I've ever been to was in Sydney... apparantly the world's largest IMAX screen. Saw the new Star Trek film there and also saw Monsters vs. Aliens 3D. For Star Trek, we were in the middle of the 2nd row from the back... the screen was so huge that I had to stick my head to the headrest in order to get the whole thing in my field of view!!! Was frickin' awesome. I'm just bummed out that my closest IMAX cinema is in Glasgow... 3 bloody hours away. :(

My mate works in the odeon metro centre, they just moved over a few days ago.

He said the gallery seats are well worth the money, dead comfy and you get access to a free bar - free popcorn and a drink.

TheMagicPirate, I'm interested to hear the exact size of the screen (especially if you can get height and width) as there seems to be some confusion on exactly what kind of IMAX screen it is.

Apparently there's a few different kinds. According to Wiki the standard IMAX is 53x72 feet while the new much smaller IMAX Digital is only 28x58 feet. People are calling the second one "fake" IMAX because its not that much bigger then a lot of standard cinema screen and is usually used to update a standard cinema auditorium to an IMAX like experience (standard seating but with a slightly bigger screen and digital projectors).

I watched Avatar in the Metro IMAX yesterday and I have to say the screen looked absolutely massive to me and the auditorium certainly looked like a custom built IMAX cinema from what I've heard of them, never been to one before though. I mean if that is "fake" IMAX then I like fake IMAX :).. but I doubt it.
