IMPORTANT - Nintendo recall ALL Wii Controllers!

I don't even use the straps. I can't believe how stupid some people can be to throw the controllers at their screens.

wait for my my thread about a busted TV and laugh :D

This really does seem to me to have been an issue blown out of all proportion, a few people acting stupid have bust the straps posted stuff on the net and now all of a sudden everyones going on about it.

I really doubt peoples straps have broken the very first time they let go of the pad by accident more like they've done it quite a few times trying to serve like Greg Rusedski and its worn away.

Surely whatever material they use wil eventually break over time anyway through wear and tear rubbing on the thread all the time short of using catgut or wire or something?

This is a very good opportunity for Nintendo.

People tend to judge a company on how they sort out there problems. If they do this efficently they could come out of it smelling of roses.

same here, i got my wii yesterday and played it from 6pm - 2am and i really can't imagine anyone throwing or letting go of the wii-mote unless you're being a complete melon.

until it happens to me, and then it will be a complete travisty :o

Or how stupid they were releasing poor straps.

To be honest I don't think the straps are the issue. It's people being idiots when using the controllers.

People must really be swinging their arms around like idiots if it causes the strap to snap and then they actually 'let go' of the controller?

I haven't even used the straps yet and I played my Wii for about 6 hours in total.

The straps are just a safeguard, in case you are stupid enough to let go of the controller while swinging it at the TV. They aren't there to stop you letting go of it. Don't let go of it and it's not an issue.

Everyone I know that's had a go on wii sports can not understand how people could let go of it unless it is on purpose.

Some people are doing full on Pete Sampras style serves and letting controller slip which is obviously retarded when two simple wrist flicks do the 'power serve'

I've accidentally let go once, and the strap caught it fine. I am quite paranoid as the strap doesn't look like it can hold too much. Still one slip in ~25 hours of play isn't bad!

Hmm i thought Europe got an overall more 'beefed up' strap than USA and Japan anyway, seems sturdy enough to me and you really would have to be a complete tool to break it. Might check out my controller i got with Wii Play see if the strap is any different to the one i got with my console.

I can't see how anyone can let go of the Wii-mote, unless they're a retarded moron. When my mate got his Wii, we played quite a lot of Wii sports without using the strap because the Wii-mote is light as a feather and we're not idiots who think we're Mike Tyson and Tim Henman.

Just another one of those things that's blown out of proportion.

So does anyone know if they will replace ALL straps, or just the borken ones?

I have 2 of the "thinner" ones, as seen in a recent photo comparison on this very forum.

I would rather replace them now, than have problems later.

quote from bbc

Games firm Nintendo has said it will replace all broken straps for its Wii console, following customer complaints.

Just noticed that the BBC have changed the reports name.

It was "Nintendo recalls 3.2m Wii straps"

and is now "Nintendo respond to Wii breakages"

Same story, same link.

Yeah I just noticed that looks like the bbc jumped the gun thinking nintendo were replaceing all ths straps but in reality they are only going to replace broken ones.

So its even more of a non story than it was in the first place!

"Nintendo in replacing warranty'd part shocker!"
