yes, i viewed a 2001 model on saturday. (a diesel so don't get too excited, lol). i walked away after convincing myself against it.
same reason you mentioned put me off.

i've never had one before and in terms of luxury they are just superb.
car prices are at an all time low right now, although i suspect this will change as the housing market slows down.

The old man runs a 2002 model V8 which has been nothing but superb, its an absolutely superb car for the money, everything about it is beautiful, even the door cards and centre console ooze quality. It really does feel special to drive, the only other car which gives me the same sense of occasion for the same sort of money are range rover's.

Do it, if it turned out to be a bad egg then you can always shift it on :)

do you really think so though?
with something like an S class, if something broke you'd have to have it ixed before you can sell it on as the potential buyer is going to check everything works.
that'd leave you with the choices of A) sell it as is for less than market value or B) repair it at with what may be a considerable sum of money in order to get market value.

i'd be very wary...in fact i AM very wary.

Don't do that to me. I've just started to get my finances back on track! ;)
to a fan of the GTiR, that one ticks all the right boxes.
it'll be quite a performer too.
