Hi OCUK,

I recently pre-ordered Windows 7 for a great price and now i have decided to upgrade my current system so i don't have to buy another license.

I was looking at spending no more than £400 but the lower the better.

All i need are 4 core parts.

Motherboard, CPU, Ram and CPU Cooler.

i have decided to keep my current Graphics Card (4850 1gb) and HDDs until i get more money available to upgrade them. Once I have the new system up and running of course the below parts will more than likely be sold.

I use my PC for a lot of gaming and this year will be playing Left 4 Dead 2, Fifa 10 and FM10.

I also use a lot of VMs on my machine as well as to aid my learning with servers.

What do you guys think?

I am looking to go DDR3 and i5 as i think it makes more sense than a Quad at this point.

I am a little unsure though if my 650 watt Enermax will be enough to handle the new system though so please let me know what you think?

I would like to keep the 650 due to money saving reasons but am willing to upgrade should this not work out.

the 650 will be fine, if anything the new system is likely to use slightly less power, unless you upgrade your gfx card later, but for a single card set up 650 will still be plenty
Yeah Id go for i5 750, gigabyte UD2 mobo, 8 gig of GSKill Ripjaw RAM (as youre using VMs)

I agree, the 650 watt will be fine. I was a little short sighted when I built my system so would recommend if you do decide to upgrade the power supply in the future you look toward potential upgrades so you don't have to buy twice.

In that case, all looks good, not 100% sure on cooler, theres not many reviews about due to how new they are, but Id hazard a guess at it being pretty decent

Interesting post as I too am thinking of doing an upgrade from a Q6600 for Windows 7 and I too run VMs.

The motherboard mentioned, can you get a Noctua for it? I've got a Noctua at the moment.

Only difference for me is that I'm running my current kit in an Antec 300 case.
